Hi All,

Any suggestions on what blades to use to cut carbon sheets about 3mm thick? Preferably for Black and decker jig saws.

Was thinking of cutting out a few firewalls.

Thanks

Uhhh... diamond. Seriously. Just about anything else will dull very quickly. I have used carbide cutters in my Dremel and they work pretty well, for a while.

Why solid carbon for a firewall? Sounds heavy.

Don't breathe the dust.. wear a mask.

David,

I thought that carbon would make a strong and light firewall for my electric gliders. No?

What diamond cutters? Any reference?

Thanks

3mm (or even a little thinner) G-10 fiberglass is much easier to cut and not much heavier. If it's for an electric glider, then the firewall will be fairly small and the weight savings will be pretty small too.

I've never seen a diamond jig saw blade, but Harbor Freight ( http://www.harborfreight.com/ ) has diamond and carbide cutters for Dremels etc. They also have a diamond-coated wire blade which fits many coping saws ans scroll saws. You can use a normal steel blade, but you will have to replace it earlier than you might like.

I use my dremel carbide cutter for cutting spars, etc, even though I know you really couldn't do it because of all the dust. Works quite nicely.
