In the new 8.2 Alpha the old models seem to exhibit a weird anti-gravity problem sometimes. It seems to be aggravated by vertical climbouts. All of the sudden the force of gravity seems to decrease and climb performance increases dramatically. Sometimes it gets to strong that the plane literally gets sucked into the sky and is impossible to get back down!

Yah, if you have it set to show the speed, vertical velocity, and altitude, you'll notice that when it does that freaky thing it's like the ground is moved up. It might be 987394874 feet in the air, but show 5.

It happens when you fly version 7 models in 8.2 They'll probably fix that, as I'm sure it's a bug.

I have also tested Alpha 8.2, and found that with a lot of the Version 7 models, they fly well, up to a point and then just goes up and up and up.

To overcome this problem, go to Simulation, Thermal Options, and reduce the "Updraft" and "Bubbles" levels. It might take several tries until you get it to "feel" right. This method worked for all my version 7 models.

The problem is that the behavior isn't consistent. Beta 7 planes would fly fine for awhile and then suddenly start 'falling' into the sky. Once they started doing this, thre was no stopping it unless the plane was re-initialized.

With updrafts and bubbles the v8 planes shake and bob unrealisitically at the stock (low) settings. They did need to be reduced to very near the absolute minimums to avoid this.
I didn't notice if fully reducing these settings (to their absolute minimums) eliminates the 'anti-gravity' problem. Does it?

Extract from Roman in the FMS Forum. (http://cgi.ethz.ch/~mmoeller/cgi-bin/ikonboard3/ikonboard.cgi?s=40e7a0e318c8ffff;act=ST;f=12;t=258 )

"Hello,

yes you are right. I did have a look at that and realised that the thermal speed points dowards instead of upwards. So I changed that for the next release.
