Well guys, here is my first attempt at a scale project, with the full size below. Full details can be founf at www.micro-heli.co.uk

Looks like a nice finish - Is that a commercial body or one you whipped up yourself?

Tim, its one of the three GRP fuse's JR produce for the Voyager..I'm not that clever :)

Me either - Your lucky to find one. I've had to go nitro for my future projects - I just can't find anything that fits a small heli.

Malc, that's looking really good. Can't wait to see it flying!

Thanks Greg, you should see it now, the lacqure glinting in the sunlight as it drys :), just hope I don't screw it up fitting the mechanics back into it !

Tim, I got the body from Midland Helicopters, apparantly there are still available, but no idea if thats to order. You could also try Skyline Models who are a large stockest of JR gear and ship worldwide

Midlands have a nice range of hard to get parts. I ship lots of stuff from them and Skyline - it's cheaper than buying it down here, and noone stocks spares for anything in Oz.

I don't have actually have a Voyager E - Just moaning about lack of choice as usual :).

nice looking heli, can any milltary bodies be bought for the voyager e ?

Malc, it looks like you ended up with enough room to do a full interior, not just a partial front. Are my eyes deceiving me? That would be fantastic to see fully dressed-out.

The bad thing about completely decking out a scale project is that when youre done, you will be to afraid to fly it.

darth, you are right !

I've just spent weeks repairing a boom strike through the tail section of the AS350, and it now looks as good as it originally did, but I'm reluctant now to fly it for fear of some other component failing. Next time it may not be as salvageable !!

Guys guys guys...we don't build these to be hangar queens! If we did that, then we'd do better to spend our money on small plastic Monogram or Revell kits. Spend the time and effort...if you crash it, rebuild it. Don't let one crash or rekit discourage you. Besides, don't crash, and you won't have any problems :)

Yea yea, we know. We could go and buy a big revell Static model but its just something about even just knowing it could really fly if we wanted it to. I guess you can build the kit and take a lot of pictures. That way At least we would have something to show someone that at least we did have a flyable nice looking bird before we wreck it. BTW Is it just me or is everyone else the same way, I can fly a pod and boom like a mad man but when i Put a nice body on It seems like the brain stops working and your fingers do things to the controls you dont expect it to do ? Its as if youre a newby all over again. I guess thats called the pucker factor.

Hi Darth,
Are any of your fuselages big enough for a Voyager? I came across a deal at the LHS on a Voyager that was too good to pass up but now I'm regretting it because there doesn't seem to be that many fuselages for it.

I need some specs on the Voyager to be able to give you some kinda of idea.

Voyager E
Overall length 33"
Overall height 12.25"
Main rotor diameter 38 5/8"
Tail rotor diameter 7"

The mechanics are about 7.75" long not counting a shelf that sticks out to hold the reciever. The main mast sits about 4 inches back from the front of the mechanics. Overall they stand about 5" tall.

Need info on distance from main mast to tailrotor Hub...
from main mast to the furthest most part of equipment going toward the front of the Heli.
Need to need the widest most part of the Heli.
swashplate to bottom of frame...
Bottom of frame to bottom of landing skids
A pic with these Dims would help alot.

If the voyager e is anything close to an Eco 8 There is a Bell222 available.

Edit: The pictures not the greatest but just below where it says Tail Boom I added a 10 inch scale so you can figure out anthing else.

Hey dan, Looking at those specs and measuring my Bell222, it looks like it will work on the Voyager. Everything specs out pretty good to me.

Those are two fine examples..right down to the camera pod !

The only things i can think of where you might run into problems with fitting the 222 on an VE is that the boom on the Eco is some 4" longer than the VE (the distance from the main shaft to the tail output shaft). Thus you would effectively have to do the stretch mod to the VE first (eco boom and eco 16 belt if memory serves me correct). Also the boom is mounted lower in the frame on the VE compared to the Eco which may cause issues unless there 222 has a lot of room in the boom section.

I originally thought about trying to make the JR AS350 body fit on my Eco (well it would save the expence of buying a brushless VE) but gave up when I managed to get the dimentions of the VE and realised it would'n work !

Whats needed is for Darth to re-scale his Agusta, 222 and ranger bodies to suit the VE dimentions.... thats if he has nothing else to do ;)

Ahh.... The bell 222 fuselage for the Eco 8 will definitely work then. The main problem I see with the Eco 8 is that according to scale, the frame is to long. The tail boom cover was stretched to work with the Eco 8. The tailboom can be cut down (designed that way) which would bring it much more closer to scale. I have the same problem with the Corona and the Gas model LMH Heli. Both are the same basically except the booms are longer on the Corona, and blades. So instead of making two different size booms, Ive made one which could be cut down to fit the heli type whichever is owned. On the much talked about "project X" Which is a scale project, there will be no ability for trimming the boom. On the Bell222 body, there is about 6-7 inches forward the main mast. If the Tailboom is trimmed, you will not have to worry about trying to reposition the fuselage. Besides that it wouldnt look right if you did. The mainshaft needs to exit the body where it is for it to even look scale.

Hi Darth,
thanks for looking. I was really hopeing you might have something that looked good in Olive Drab. :) The 222 is my favorite civilian helicopter so if I end up going with that it's definitely not breaking my heart.

Well at a meeting last night I had the chance to test fly the VE for the first time following the re-build after the tail pitch slider let go.

The test flight showed that the lighting unit, blade tracking and belt tensioning needs looking at, but at least she got airborn :)

The image is a captured still from the video footage, hence the poor quality

Where did u actually buy this body for the voyager E?

Malc C

I got mine from Midland Helicopters in the UK. JR make 4 grp bodies for the Voyager so you should be able to have one imported via your local JR realership
