And what was his reason for saying that! I have both nitro and electric
offroad cars and both run very well on offroad tracks.
Does he only sell nitro by any chance ?

If you want 4WD, consider the Yokomo MR4-BC for bashing or entry
level; or the MR4-BC Special for more serious racing.
I've recently got myself a BC Special: the handling is as good as my
old TTech Predator, and it rides the bumps far better. Space for the
electrics isn't fantastic though... that's my only complaint thus far!
Have fun,
Jonny

I can't thank you all enough for your helpful comments, as a total novice it
is great to be able to reply upon experienced people - hey this is what
these newsgroups are for!
Thank you. On the strength of the comments made on this group I decided to
purchase a Traxxax Emax - just one hour ago, I cant wait to try it.
I just have to keep my Boxer dog away - he has a fixation about wheels!
Cheers

Electrics can and sometimes do, beat nitros on offroad tracks.
There has been an ill informed bias that electrics are not good for off
road. In the past few years electrics have gotten much better. With the
new 3300 MAh batteries, better motors and the new brushless motors
finally showing up for trucks and cars, the feild has become more
level.
Granted the nitros have a better top end speed and you just can't beat
the sound of all the nitro motors, and the smell of the nitro.
BUT
If you put two versions of the same type of truck say, the RC10GT and
the T4. With moderate hop ups the B4 will keep pace with the RC10GT.
The electrics have the biggest advantage on technical tracks, ones with
lots of turns and jumps. Electrics get up to speed much faster, jump
well and handle very well on tight tracks.
So, to those who say electrics cannot keep up with nitros, have never
seen what electrics can do.

100% agree
electrics are gaining on nitro's.

unfortunately, i have to agree with you. the new packs and motors are
giving the nitros a run, but on the other hand, there is only so much
traction to be had on a dirt surface. more traction is needed regardless of
the power source.

Well if its any interest, I run a Traxxas Nitro Rustler for fun and a
Associated RC10T4 (among others) for racing. My Rusty is nearly stock (diff
rear tyres). In the T4 I run a Team Orion V2 Revolution 12x1.
In absolute top speed (ie across a football field) the Rusty is way faster,
which is fair enough, out of the box, in a straight line its one of the
fastest nitro off roaders ever made.
However on the two tracks that I've raced on it is totally no contest. In
lap times the T4 would leave the Rusty for dead *easily*. Acceleration,
braking, handling, jumping, and even, yes, top speed, because the straights
are rarely long enough for a nitro to top out.
At one of these tracks they race both nitro ST's and Electric ST's. The lap
times of the mod EP ( for the good drivers) is always better than the
nitro's. The vagaries of the nitro clutches, engine loading and unloading,
clogging and unclogging just don't compare with the direct relationship
between trigger position and power output which is inherent in the EP's.
I started in this hobby with nitro's and the longer I go, the more I like my
electrics.
