View Full Version : Whoops! Remedy for Crooked Pod Repair? (Also posted on SALglider)

Dear Composites Experts,

I'm visiting from the Hand Launch Glider forum.

I recently repaired my Enigma (carbon/glass) pod, which had nearly
sheared off, due to compression damage (nose in) and a stress riser at
the front end of some carbon rods installed in a previous repair.

I ran substantial amounts of carbon tow (the tape sold by Allan
Wright) the length of the pod, then 3/4 oz. glass over the crack, all
wetted-out with thin CA. Now I notice the alignment is off by a few
degrees! (Pretty foolish.)

Does anyone know if this will respond to heat, perhaps from a heat
gun, hair dryer, or hot towels, while being held in the proper
alignment? If it was all epoxy-bonded, I'd expect heat to work
(similar to the way I've been taught to de-warp bagged wings), but I'm
not sure about the CA.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Marc

The epoxy will soften with heat... but the CA probably won't soften enough to help. It's worth a shot though.
