View Full Version : Question Tail area of 3D designs? (TVC value)

I'm designing a 3D plane and from what I see on other designs, the horizontal TVC looks rather low. Is this since pitch stability isn't a concern on this type plane?

From published data I've read, an area of about 15-20% of the wing is desirable (depending on moment arm) but this is for a normal plane.

The formula I used is TVC = (stab area/wing area) x (stab moment arm/wing chord). Mine works out to about .33 where a recommended value of about .45 or more is recommended. This is to be an all-flying stab BTW if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help.
