A weapon for my Delphin

HI

Here are some pics and a video of my newest project. A weapon for my peaceful unarmed Delphin (until now :cool: )

After some research, I found the Delphin was designed for 2 types of weapon :

- torpedoes
- mines

Thinking that there were too many torpedo subs around, I decided to build the mine.
It was supposed to be a towed mine, aimed to the target by the sub itself at full speed, towed by a 1000 ft cable (that could be deployed).
The delphin had to do an evasive manouver to avoid the collision and let the mine keep its bearing to the target.

I made my mine as simply as possible. A PVC tube would do the hull and 2 cones made of foam and resin. The rest is electronic found in my cellar or in the trash :D

The video of the MINE is very cool. :cool:

Using an auto leveler or gyro was clever.

Now I am concerned you might make a working torpedo ! ! !

After the first tests, I must admit the mine I built is a total failure !
I gathered enough informations to build a new one that should work better.

I took a video of the delphin alone. It was quite funny to run and it got a lot of success.

Wow! Just watched your little video. Wow!

That thing can fly! And I love that back down/pitch up/full ahead/turn about -- in another time I would call that a, 'Bat Turn.'

Very, very snappy little boat you have there. Norbert did good!

Yes , that little thing amazed me too. I will try it with 8 cells just to see if it can REALLY fly like germans do with their Delphins.

I was quite disappointed by the mine, but I realized the failure was my fault. It needs to be very well balanced and the hydrodynamic laws respected.
The next one will be even more simple and pure. It needs biggers fins to stabilize the whole at high speed.

The first test was ok at low speed but it was not impressive. When I increased the speed the mine began to loose control and '"stall".

Dave, I tested your torpedo launcher. IT HAD A LOT OF SUCCESS. I even managed to load a torpedo with enough gas to run it for 20 seconds !

Just for you, Dave, another 'Bat Turn' :D
I found this manouver while I was trying an emergency reverse. The dive planes are full down, the bat turn is almost automatic...
Very nice when you were the prey and you want to become the hunter ;) (like the Harriers during the Falklands war)

I would be tempted to use that boat to troll for trout. It would be a good match. Well it would be a good match at long as the submarine wins. It would be a tragidy if the fish wins. At least here in the local Los Angeles area lakes where a big trout is a pound you would stand a fair chance.
