Heh, I've got a kit for one but unfortunately, no plan set for it. Argghhh :(!
Actually, I do have a photocopy of the 1942 Airtrails construction article for the Dodger by Sal Taibi. It includes a reduced magazine page sized plan. I could scan that and email it to you if you like.

Hi Guys,
I am building my B.D. now.
For R/C conversion, how large should the rudder & elevator areas be?
I have done lots of building but this my 1st old timer.
Thanks,
Bob G

make em about 25-50% of the vert. and horiz. stabilizers and you will be in the ball park. Tthere is a suiatable spar on teh tailpalne so use that as the place to split the elevator. Ruddder? well put a spar in the middle somewhere :D
Plenty of dihedral so no worries there. Nice long tail moment too so it shouldn't be to agressive. Probably about +-30 degrees on each to start with.
Leastways thats pretty much what my self designed vintage models had, and they worked OK.

Well it’s time to talk something about the Brooklyn Dodger.
This is my second Dodger, the first one is for a glow engine and has 72” wingspan.
The new Dodger is a 60” wingspan, like the original one but whit a cannon named Brushless engine whit a 20 oz of trust (whit 3s lipo).
This new model will have as a final weight only 15oz, and the idea is provide a vertical take off, whit the nose pointed 80° to the sky.
Like the SAM old timers, only a few seconds of engine running, and .... thermal, many one of them.
I think that this engine, give me the possibility to fly for almost a hour before I drain all the battery charge (to a secure cut in 9volts) .
The model is on the building bench and the critical parts are been made, horrible things like cut the wing ribs, and tail trailing edge.
I am planning to use the elevator on a half side of stabilizer, and a big rudder in 50% of Finn surface .
Carbon fiber for the spar reinforcement and all balsa strips fuse and wings, whit false ribs.
For a final touch, red transparent Oralight.
Wen the model gets its final appearance I will post some photos .
Maybe during the building process.

Well, my Brooklyn fly's on yesterday, and in the fact he flies like an angel. Very light, only weighed 16z Ready to fly, this Dodger is the Everest of my life of modeler.
Some other’s information:
Wingspan -56”
Chord -7”
Weight -RF 13oz
Engine -Himax outrunner in 3S
Propeller- APC 8 3/8
Battery – Lipo 850mA
Engine trust-22oz
The behavior
Docile like a angel, climbs very fast, glides like a F3J, good thermalist, good command response .
A very old dream that’s come true!!

Beautiful job on both. I built one in 1973 for O/T F/F with a Vivell .35 on ignition, in it. Picked up a couple of trophies with it. Mine was done in traditional silk and dope. Yes, Yellow and Red.
Those trophies on the bench look suspiciously like some Trophies from the Nats in the Mid 50's.
The Dodger was a very forgiving plane and as you say flew extremely well

Hi Cebola
The 1942 Airtrails plan does not seem to have the cg position shown. can you advise your location please.
I worked in Brazil for 3 years in 1972/1975 in Rio and Salvador-what a blast. MY family still talk about it.

My Dodger has the CG at 60% of wing chord, I try in 50% but the nose get dawn , and some up trim must be applied.
Whit a light nose, and some tail ballast , the Dodger flays like a real angel.
Has a reference, the second wing spar, is a good point of CG location.

Bombshell seems to be a good model despite, the sheeted fuselage sides, in my opinion balsa stripes behaves better for Bombshell.
The Cg location seems to be good enough around 50% of wing chord.
Do remember that bombshell use a flying airfoil on stabilizer.
