View Full Version : Playboy tailfeathers - limited throws?

I am building a Leisure kit of the Playboy. I've just finished attaching the tailfeathers to the fuselage, per the instructions and now I notice that at full throws, the elevator and rudder can inerfere with each other. This seems very bad in my mind. Which should I limit the throw of, the elevator or the rudder? My hunch is the rudder since most of these planes were originally designed to be flown free-flight or rudder only with escarpments, but I'm not sure about the Playboy.
While I'm asking the experts here - what throws to people like for the R/E on the Playboy?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Allan

Allan,
If the tail is built the same as a Ben Buckler Playboy the rudder should get about 30 deg of travel both ways befor fouling the elevators , this is suffient , a similar movement on the elevator is plenty .
If your TX has duel rates set 1/2 to 2/3 rates till you get used to it , if it test glides ok it will fly ok on reduced rates , but do make your first flytes in dead calm weather .

I have a 96" Old Timer ( Spook) and I can only get about 25- 30 degrees of throw. After flying an E3D and other Fun Fly types, these seemed like they wouldn't even effect flight :) But in all honesty they are plenty for the type of flying an Old Timer does.
I have to admit I was wondering if it would be enough before the first flight though. ;)
