I played it today. 2 hours later, it tells me a keer, or kerr, problem and to reinstall the disc. What happened? I did nothing wrong or different. What is happening?

I guess you've rebooted? Try opening the control panel and running the software from there. Might also try to "update" the software from the control panel for G2 as well. Hope this helps. Atleast you have your "driving" simulator :D

haha. I cant even open the program. Oh well. When I get home from my buisness trip I'll deal with it. For now, a board Keith. :(

My guess is that it went looking for your disk and did not find it. Mine has NEVER looked to see if the CD is in the drive.

The disk does not need to remain in the drive does it ?? Hmm

Can you go to the control panel from your start menu? If so, try it from there. They're is also a new update available that replaces your rflight.exe file that you might be able to download and get the program restarted. I think you can also update from their website.

Where from the control panel? The Windows CP or the Real Flight CP ? Thanks.

From the Real Flight Control Panel click "Online Updates" and then update from web. You will have to have registered the copy for it to work (I believe).

I am legit and registered. Lemme try this.

According to Knife Edge the copy scheme is supposed to check the disk to read a random error that shows you are a registered owner. Mine has NEVER checked.

Any luck Keith? I've never had G2 ask for the disk (also legit/owner/registered copy) but I understood that it was only the older versions and the new updates replaced the need for that.

Yeah, I registered and all. Its asking me for the disk, I'll be home tomorrow. So, no big deal, but strange. Oh well.

There is a way around that "ask for disk" crap you know ;)

Well, lets hear it? I spent the money, I bought the setup, I registered it, I am all legal. but this cant happen again on a boring 10 day road trip :)

CD copying software. There's also GameX Copy. Both will read the copy protection scheme that KE uses and allow you to create a virtual disk on you hard drive - great for that BS when the SW checks for the disk. Since G2 now uses a dedicated Interlink controller (dongle) WTF do they bother? But I have yet to have my SW ask to see the disk.

So I paid for my RF and you copied ehh? Is that what I am reading? I hope I am wrong.

Creating a virtual CD on your hard drive from a CD you purchased is fairly legitimate use. It's not necessarily the same thing as stealing the software by copying, even if that is possible.

Keith, just reinstall the software when you get home, update to the latest version over the internet and your problems should be over. From there, just keep the CD on you when you travel. I know, pain, but it's the only way for absolute without using something like Alcohol 120 (discussed on TechTV a lot). Technically, your "backing up" your legititmately (sp??) purchased software.

I would also drop Knifeedge a tech e-mail asking why it's done this so you can prevent it in the future.

I just emailed them asking that very question.
