That depends on how much of the work you want to do yourself and how much experience or help you can count on. If you've sxperince of other types of modelling, r/c, engines etc., it should be no problem. If you're an outright beginner, cut your teeth on an almost ready to run model.
Have a look at: http://www.intlwaters.com

20" is pretty short for a Nitro powered boat. My .12's are larger than that. My smallest one is 24". I have 3 of them, 2 monos and an outrigger hydro.
Pix of 2 of them:

Yes, Fantom .12's in both of the boats shown. They are great motors in cars and trucks but I'm having a Heckuva time getting them dialed in in the boats. I have a Trinity/Picco that I just put back into the 'rigger because of the teething problems. finding the right prop, pipe length, carb setting, etc. has been a real pain so far. I haven't given up on them yet as I have the rear exhaust one changed with a modded Nova Rossi .21 carb, an extra head shim and colder plug to see if any of those help.

Good luck .I have a traxxas pro modded 15 that runs great and easier to tune than the fantom but the fantom has a lot of power and speed.Mine has a nickel sleeve instead of chrome and brass ,but i got it off of Ebay for cheap.BTW ,what kind of pipe are you running ?.

I built these boats to be legal in the updated IMPBA "A" class which is limited to .129 cu.in. but no other restrictions like what ROAR or other car sanctioning bodies have. I've had the best luck with the Mac 2.5 pipes (shown) but I do have others that I've tried and more that I'm looking at, possibly a Losi Adam Drake.
We ought to get back to the subject at hand. Sorry for getting off on a tangent, stuff like this happens.
