View Full Version : Question Can't land any planes on runway using Realflight G2

No matter which plane I choose, I can't seem to be able to land it on the runway correctly. I can land almost anywhere else there is a flat surface, but my biggest problem is lining the plane up with the runway ifself. The software flight instuctor gives a demonstration and each time suggests that I cut my airspeed down and lower the plane to where there is a shadow on the ground, then line the shadow up with the runway itself. It says that "Wherever the shadow goes, thats where the plane will go". I try this over and over again and can't seem to get this down for the life of me. Has anyone else here had this problem?

Never heard of landing using a shadow?, a shadow moves?. I can't really help you i dont have Realflight G2. So i would only be speaking out of first hand experience not computer related graphics. Sorry. Is Realflight G2 any good i was thinking of getting it?

Sorry

Try flying and landing a while using the view flying from behind your plane.(press F6). This helped me to get accustomed to landings.

Still having problems? I always set the view to "view ground" under the view menu so the ground is always in view. It helps me get a more authentic feel to the sim. Also, your final turn should look like you've flown past the runway but you'll discover you're actually lined up with it. Wish I could get my multi-player to work and I would fly with you to show you but I can't.

I've been flying for several years and still love it. You won't be disappointed. However, it doesn't mean that people aren't happy with the other simulators.

Ive never heard of shadow landing either. especial seeing as how in the real world your shadow isnt always directly in front of you.

I would have to ask teh following questions.

Can you fly straight? like hold course 180 and not deviate?

Can you land in other simulators?

Flying straight is easy...as easy as it is in real life.

You can land in any of the simulators although I've found that real flight is the best and most realistic to me. I've got the landing simulation set on realistic / Hardest and have no problems landing.

For me, I set the view from the pits and add the option of view ground. If you'll update to the latest software, it will keep the view to ground set as a default so you don't have to reset the view everytime you change planes. Anyway, from that view point landing is just like in real life.

I would say that the "shadow" method is something that a tech guy at Knife Edge would say that has never flown R/C before but figured it out while playing around in the office. Just my guess.

Just wait till you try to fly the helicopters. That is a thrill. If you call crashing a thrill.

My biggest problem was learning to land the Sopwith Camel. I must have crashed it at least 200 times. And still don't do it 100%. It is a lot of fun and a great tool.

I wonder if it will start having GWS planes since Tower Hobbies is going to start selling them.

Peace.

Heli's aren't to bad (as long as I'm hovering). I still don't have the transition down from forward flight to hover down yet.

I'll have to try the Sopwith Camel

The "shadow" thing is the onboard flight instructor. There's a ghostly image you are supposed to follow. Screws me up big time. :)

Where do you see the "onboard flight instructor" shadow? Is it just the shadow on the ground underneath the plane or is it something else that I've missed?
