Has anyone here done the pylon version of the Leisure Time Playboy? I'm about 1/2 way done with mine and I'm wondering if anyone else used the foam on the pylon's 'rails' or if it's not necessary.

Allan:

I built a pylon wing Playboy, but from Tom Hunt plans. I found that the wing stays right in place being held by the rubber bands. I'll assume the pylons were designed roughly the same way, but I don't know. Here is a picture which I hope helps.

Allan- That same subject was brought up on 'Sam Talk' just yesterday. The topic was brought up by Tandy Walker, a master builder, with pics of both a Playboy and a Lanzo Bomber. Both had foam tape on top of the wing saddle. My experience with pylon free flight models is that the tape prevents the wing from moving around. Jim

OK thanks, I'll try the foam tape.

Now, I'm thinking of breaking from tradition on the rudder kingpost, and just running my pushrod over the top of the stab. How serious of an offense is this? Would it keep me out of any OT competitions?

Matt, LOVE those trexlers - they just look the part on your Playboy!

Thanks, Allan. I cannot see that some foam tape would hurt anything. It is just that my wing never moves, even when I am flying in windy conditions. I used foam tape all the time when I flew glow power to seal up the interior of the fuselage. Maybe I am going too far shaking those glow power habits! I just came back from our field in Sidney, Maine. It was perfectly calm and warm. My Playboy flies on an Astro 05G and seven 2400mAh SCR cells (That setup is kind of old timer in itself). Anyway, I climbed and glided for about a half hour on one charge and did a half dozen touch and goes. I really love my Playboy. Hope yours is a great success.

Thanks Matt, I'm going to use an astro 020 with 4.44:1 gearing on a 12x8 prop. This flew a 2-meter sailplane with authority so it should be a nice match to the Playboy. Hopefully with a folding prop I'll be able to grab some thermal action.

Al,
Even with a fixed prop a Playboy doesnt need much of a thermal to stay aloft .
As to the foam tape , my 20yo Playboy senior has felt on the wing pylon (from an old pool table cover) it never shifts dureing flyte .
