Make it a success!

The poll for a forum to discuss flying wings and other tail-less aircraft was successful by a majority of 76.19% in favour to 23.81% against.

The forum is for the discussion of flying wings and tail-less aircraft, irrespective of power source (slope, electic, fuel). For example, topics could include:
Flight dynamics, designs, building, set-up and flying of flying-wing and other tail-less airplanes, to include slope and other gliders, plus electric and wet-fuel powered models.

The forum will be situated in this Trial Forums area for a period of at least 30 days to establish the viability of the forum. If the forum proves successful then after that review period it will be moved to the Aircraft-General part of the site.

Moderation of the forum during the trial period will be by the administrators and super moderators. If you have any queries please contact one of us.

Please be sure to post all of your flying wing related queries, tips and comments in this forum to make it a huge success.

Enjoy the forum :)

DEFINITION OF FLYING WINGS,

This is an ALIENATOR built as a Slope Soarer, and "Kit Bashed" to look like a Sukhoi S37 "Berkut" F.S.W. Russian experimental Fighter.

Q. Is this a flying wing or do the elevators disqualify it.?
Or do the non working Canards disqualify it. ?

Please comment. Cheers. Patrick.

This is already a success Andy, just take a look at the profile brotherhood forum.
4 threads with a total of maybe 10 posts on the last month...

This is a viable subject, and while i wasn't sure i wanted to see it pulled from the parkflyers, foamies and glider sections (all over really), i think this will make the stuff easier to find and enjoy. I am certain that some will never read threads that they would have if it was still in the other forums, but i think the pros outweigh the cons...
All this and i'm not all that big a fan of wings. I like 'em ok though. (zagi and msw)
Make it permanent.

I think one of the keys to the success of this forum will be for us to all move our discussions from those other forums to this one. Only then will it become successful, as well as possibly permanent.

Oldpilot;

That is a tricky one... I have no problem with the seperate aileron/elevators. Even though it is extended aft a bit, the elevator is on an extension of the wing so it makes it sort of a blended wing. Many flying wings have a seperate elevator, and some even sort of like yours.

The Canards make it a bit more dicey, however, on yours they are basically decorative and do little or nothing to add/detract from control and stability. I say yes, bring it in on the Flying Wings forum.

rc10t3:

I don't know about dragging existing discussions into this forum, but would suggest that any new threads related to flying wings be posted here.

All:

As far as I am concerned this forum is a success... Well, we need to get the traffic up and keep it up, but I think that that will happen (fingers crossed).

J.P.

We just said the same thing, new discussions should occur here, not in the other forums. You just said it better.

Gents

Please post your questions and discussions as new threads in the forum, not as single posts within this thread.

Thanks

I would like to thank the powers that be for making this forum for flying wings. I really do not understand why some people were having fits about this area, seeing that wings are so popular. I admit that I am a flying wing addict, and can not in any honesty say which one is my favorite. My goal is to own one of each 48" wings available. If I could give one point of criticism is why is this forum such a secret? I have been a member for over 2 years now and have been checking out info from the Foamie Forum, but as you all know, not all foamies are wings. I just happened to stumble here by sheer accident, and I am sure a lot of others have no idea this place exists. Why is it located waaaay at the bottom of the list? Is there some kind of stigma attached to these planes that I don't know about?

Wel, you know something has to be at the bottom of the page. Within each forum subset the individual forums are listed alphabetically.

There is not a great secret to this and no stigma involved whatsoever. The poll was publicised throughout the forums, with sticky threads announcing the vote. The creation of the new forum was announced and the process for creating the new forum has been followed to the letter. If you missed all the fuss that went with three votes on this subject in the past few months then I'm amazed. If you knew that people were having fits about this forum being created then presumably you knew that there was an issue there- did you vote in any of those three polls?

The other new forums that have been created and succeeded through this process- such as the 3D forum - have done so in a very obvious manner. Other forums, which have not been so successful in their trial period, such as the Combat forum, are still "on probation" so to speak.

I'm sorry, I did not know the flying wing thread was down here......

I have been busy doing build threads and helping new flyers in the foamie section and other areas. I'm also torn to continue posting in the foamies or down here.

I've asked that maybe a temp sticky be put in foamies to let the viewers know about this trial wing area. This is a wise and reasonable request --- so far no response...

I don't think reading the riot act and treating your customers like turnips is helpful at all.

So I'll repeat. I'm sorry, I did not know the flying wing thread was down here.......

THATS FUNNY.! My head doesn't feel like a Turnip at all!!!

But then I have never thought of myself as a flying wing fan.

On reflection-- I find I have a Direct 280, Weasel, Red Herring, FSW Bird of Prey, Jedi Starfighter, B-58 Hustler (unfinished), Zagi 400 still NIB, and an Alienator, converted to an S37 Berkut FSW.

So Pr'aps I am going to be grateful for this new forum, rather than bitching about it.

Cheers. Patrick. :) :D

If not a turnip, how about a KIWI fruit or maybe even a Fosters? :)

Just thought it was a good idea to put a temp. sticky in Foamies in case folks did not catch the new thread.

Tad

Just curious?? If you see a thread you are not interested in, do you feel it is necessary to denigrate or do you just move on to one that you are interested in. Some people are strange---could be Too Little Too late---

JERRY.

Who said I am not interested in it.

Cheers. Patrick.

Yep, I'm a fan of wings, in fact I'm a fan of all sorts. I simply add each forum I'm interested in to my favourites, and each time I come to my second home ;) I go through them all one by one.

I also think it's good to seperate the wings as I have just found stuff here I wouldn't have bothered looking at otherwise. And foamies is too crowded anyway. Some more publicity wouldn't go astray though. but looking at the amount of posts I don't think it'll go away :D

Jerry: you may want to read oldpilots post again, he wasn't bagging it IMHO.

Cheers
Paul

P.S "profile brotherhood"  What's with that forum? planes that have flat fuselages? apologies in advance to all the "brotherhood" members :D Sounds like a religion......

Old Pilot(if you are an old pilot, what does that make me)
Sorry! When you wrote " bitching about it", I assumed you were referring to a previous post where you might not have been positive in your assessment of this new forum.

Congratulations Wing Fans!

Having successfully navigated through the 30 day trial period for new forums with ease the flying wings forum is now installed in it's new location under the Aircraft-General tab.

Well done and happy posting.
