Who's going to OW this weekend?

There's a departure from the usual closure of the airfield at 6pm. There's an evening airshow taking place.

Old models during the day and older full size on the Saturday evening and a forecast of high pressure, light winds and no rain. What more can we want? Apart from finding time to eat and look round the museum and go to the pub and meet up with friends and..........

See you there?

Tony,

Mrs H and I are planning to go on the saturday.

I've not been to this event before so I phoned OW for details yesterday. The person I spoke to said there was model flying from 10am - 3pm and then the fullsize display would start at 6.30pm.

They were a bit unclear about the type of models elligible, insurance and whether A or B certs would be needed though. Any clues?

For anyone wondering just what this is all about;

Tim

The normal form at Old Warden, so I've read for previous event, is that for aileron equipped models you need a "B" Certificate, but you are okay with an "A" certificate if you are flying rudder-elevator. By extension that would naturally mean that you would have BMFA insurance.

I'm not going to make it, so be sure to take plenty of pictures to light up the new forum.

Tim, I don't fly radio at the OW events - I can't get the valves any more. Freeflight for me. Plus a lot of photos for Brian.

I think Brian's right about the certs.. That's as I remember it but it's a changing world. I gather that you can get some new-fangled stuff that's taking over from Galloping Ghost. Someday we may be able to fly more than one model at a time.

I'll phone Mr Marconi and ask.......

I visited Old Warden for the first time in 30 years last year. (I was 5 last time:-))
Awesome... all I can say.

Now you're making life really tricky. I'd forgotten about Old Warden so I was planning to go to the Barton Bash (control line event for those who don't know Barton) since I'll be in that part of the world.

Decisions, decisions ;).

What decision? OW on Saturday- models then full size; off across to Barton Sunday morning.

Probably too late, but if you're thinking of camping at OW, forget it. Apparently the camp site was full by early afternoon today.

Due to continuous rain over the last month the surrounding area sites are also full. I managed to get a site some distance away providing I arrive by 9.30 am in the morning.

The show goes on, I'm pleased to say, but next time it looks like B&B.

Weather looks like being perfect for the Avro, Boxkite, Bleriot, Deperdussin etc. - can't wait!

Tony,

We're just coming down for the day. Hopefully I'll get to fly the Super Scorpion at some point, but it really doesn't matter too much........

May see you there Tim. We should be over mid/late afternoon...I wonder if boisterous black puppies are allowed?

I would be interested to hear how this event went as they are repeating it in September.
I used to really enjoy the old MAP vintage weekend. Lots of models of all types and a great atmosphere. Went to one of the Traplet events and it seemed to be much smaller with fewer models & less atmosphere.

Can someone give a flavour of what was going on?
Can you prebook the camping?

Best ask Tim - we arived too late for the models. Grr :)

But I was impressed by the number of people, and the general well behaved-ness of it. I got the impression that all of those who were there, came because they are really interested in aviation - next time I may even bring a model :).

See you September!
