Another thread kinda got me curious-How long are the contest rounds in your neck of the woods, and about how many entrants are in a typical contest?
I'll start- A typical contest will start with a 5 or 6 minute round to loosen the ol' thumbs. Depending on conditions, subsequent rounds will be either 6 or 7 minutes.
Attendance will vary from a handfull of guys at the S. Florida events to maybe about 30 at Kennyworld in Ocala.

Good question.

Typical local contest in my area for the past few years:
- all flight times are 10 minutes
- 5 rounds

All of this is at the contest director (CD's) discretion.

- 15-20 entries for club contests.
- 40-60 entries for the 2-day events nearby in Tullahoma, TN.

We fly ESL here. Typically 7 minute rounds, but the CD's choice. I never counted, but I'd guess we typically have 40-60 entrants and fly 5 or 6 rounds per day.

A recent man on man scored contest I attended here in Australia had 6 rounds of alternating 6 and 10 minute task.

We try to run a variety of formats all year long. Those formats will alter the task times from month to month. The shortest we ever run is a 3 minute task but follow that up with a 5, 7, 9, 11 - you fly them in any order but only one of each is permitted.

Other contests (add-em-up, triathalon, etc.) are set to run by AMA rules. Many times the CD will alter the tasks to suit conditions.... lots of lift equals longer times.

Our average contest attendance is 15 - 20 with 35 - 50 for our TNT two day event.

Typically, Club contests will have from 5 to 25 entrants with, depending on time of year and how cold it is, 3 to 10 rounds of 2 to 12 minutes. One of the more challanging ones is the 3 minute precision round flown when your timer tells you the clock has begun and the next time he mentions the time is when your plane touches down. Had to fly 3 of them in a row one time to break a tie.

Other contests are time dependent up to 10 rounds with mostly 10 minute times required. Usually will try to get as many rounds in as possible up to a certain time of the day. For example, last round will begin no later than 3:30 or whatever.

All of this is up to the discretion of the CD.

Typically, our contest will have 5 or 6 rounds with tasks of 3 to 8 minutes. Most have some sort of landing bonus.

Usually there will be RES and Unlimited classes. Sometimes a 2M.

Contestants will vary from perhaps 8 to 15. The numbers seem to be shrinking or at least certainly not increasing.
