Here's my scale project. The Huey belonged to a close friend of mine who left it to me after he passed away. I recieved it in the state you see it. My friend had determined that the original mechanics left a lot to be desired so they are long gone and I have a big hole in the bottom I need to fill in. I have the rotor head and I'll probably adopt the mechanics from one of my old GMP Cobras to replace the originals.

Sure looks like it's worth saving eatond. Very nicely done. So how long does 1/8th scale work out to - nose to tail?

I'm guessing that 1/8th be around the .60 size? (42' / 8 = 5.25' rotor span)

I'm keen to get the gunship .46 version, alas the price is $$$ more for the UH-1A than the ordinary Hirobo Huey. They are still made on custom order, so I guess you won't have much trouble getting body and detail parts for it. I've also been told the origonal mechanics were a bit old style and hence buggy, but all in all a good machine.

I look forward to seeing yours when she's all fitted out again.

Hi Tim,
yeah it's 60 sized. Seems like it weighs a ton. I didn't know you could still get them by custom order. My friend bought this one sometime in the mid eighties. He tried to save a buck and ended up spending a fortune on it. What he really wanted was the 1/6th scale gas version. His wife was on a around the world cruise that stopped in Hong Kong so he asked her to call him from a hobby shop. They did and he told them what he wanted and they took his wife and a big package back to the boat. When she got home a couple of months later it was this one that came out of the box.

Hey Trigger_Fish.
She's about 57" long and about 11" wide across the cabin.

My dad has one of these. It's 60. sized. Still flies it with the original mechanics - Very nice scale ship. He stocked up on the spares for the mechanics so he should be good for a while. He also made a mold of the body in case he wreaks the original.

Hi skyhawk,
yeah, I've thought about doing the same thing. If this were something I bought off of Ebay it would be a no brainer. However, since this ship has sentalmental value to me I'm worried about losing most of the work my friend did when I strip things down to pull the mold or worse damage the ship in trying to remove it from the mold. Fortunately, I have a lot of work to do before I have to make that decision. :)
