View Full Version : Vought A-7

After seeing Le Phans A-7 in the Scale forum I decided to show what I have done with the one I started several months back. Right now it is a little bit bigger than the Flying Styro model, and is designed arround the 55mm fans or 65mm without an inlet bellmouth. It has a plate wing right now but I might go with a fully airfoiled wing using an appropriate airfoil. I like this plane and will continue the design and build of it over the next few months. Any and all comments are welcome.
Cheers,

Neat stuff, Eric. Wish I had the means to do CAD.

Hi Steve,
CAD is neat. Seeing Le's made me think that I should bring mine out too. The inspiration for it was mostly from seeing the people who had the Flying Styro models and they were flying well so mybe I will try to do one too.. :)
I will get a set of Le's plans, I have a HOB A-7 with the .25 in tractor position so I guess I am a collector of A-7's.. ;)
Since I have been playing with Depron I decided ot do this one in Depron too.

Looks cool Eric. So in that drawing is that a pusher version?
You are very good with CAD. I wish I knew it. I tried once but
it seems to have a pretty steep learning curve.

Like Burger King "have it your way" or is that the golden arches?
I have not finished the power instalation yet Pete, it could go any way I want it to at that point. Tonight I started finishing the fan type. I plan on using a 55 sized fan, GWS with a bl motor should be the choice.
CAD is a tool that becomes easier to use the more you use it, it is time consuming to get to the point where you can do this with AutoCAD at least. I started using SolidWorks and all of a sudden I am starting over again, trying to learn or is it unlearn the ways and habits I have built in AutoCAD over the years.
It will be a while before I can start cutting foam so as it evolves I will post the changes.

I started this a few years ago when I was working on AutoCAD as my main design program. I am starting it back up again and will be reworking it for 90mm fans. I think it will be flying by December maybe.

Eric,
I had never seen the old drawings before......... How do they look with the new software your using.....
I remember reading about Lephan's A-7. Flew very nice, but I think it was a pusher prop......

Hi Orlando,
Yup Le was the one who inspired the first design... :)
So my plate is pretty full with this and the small side project... ;)
Hi CN,
Just having fun buddy. If it flies well I will be happy... :)

Hi Eric,
Le's pusher was a sweet flying plane when I got to see it in person last year. I've got the plans for it and had thought about enlarging it as a 70 mm EDF but 90 mm would be even better. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Dan,
I will keep the thread updated for sure. I want to document the complete design and build of it myself.
Once its finished I can scale it either way, up or down.

Hi Tram,
The TA-4J is just about ready to run thru the CNC, maybe a week maybe 2. The A-7 is a few weeks off from cutting one. I think it will be foam so I will send this thread to the Foamy Jets Forum. I had even thought about a BAE 146 using 4-70mm fans... ;)
I had even thought of something like the Saab Draken but it has been done by X-flight.
I have a good 3-view with sections of an A-6 to work on in the next few months.

Eric,
TA-4J should be the one.....I've received the retracts from LJE so I will get to work on the planform on the wing to install them...........Cute little retracts too!
I see he is now making some rotating ones.....I might need a set of those too.......
Let me know what you got on the A-7, maybe you can help me cut it out........I will start pulling the items needed to get her flying from the inventory. Please provide me a list of items needed so I can write up a reciept on the items I pull from my stock.........

Thanks bud......I think we are good on lipos and motors and ESC's for the A-7 airframes but I've ordered some more products and added a few extras for the A-4.....It should be able to get us 4 airplanes to bring out to the field at once. The A-7 I have enough products here on hand for 2 airframes.......The rest is going to the show.........
I've have not ordered another E-Logger so we will just have to take the e-logger out and switch it into the other airframes.........Just a little more work but I will locate it in an easy spot....
I will let you know when the products arrive so we can go over the items.

Hi Barry,
Yup it will be fun. We will see how close I can come to a good duct solution for it. I hope I can do as well as you have with Tams equiptment.

Thanks and same here.

Orlando,
yup not a problem, once it is completed in one size or another. Going up or down is just a scale factor.
