has anyone converted a homelite trimmer engine using Warehouse Hobbies hybrid conversion kit? I'm planning on building a boat and would like to use this setup. the engine has a standard crankshaft on it with a 1/4 inch square drive that extends approx. 2 inches from the flywheel. but, when you look at the kit, it has extra stuff like clutch bells, covers and a main shroud to close off the flywheel. my concern is if the short crankshaft is a problem or does it not matter if it extends into the bell. also I plan on running this engine direct drive. thanks for any help.

I am trying to rig up a boat with a gas engine too. This is my first time messing with boats, and there isn't alot of help out there like with planes and trucks. I too was going to use a weedwacker engine, but I have a old chainsaw I am going to rip the motor out of. Also, a chainsaw has a clutch in it that I am going to try to use. You don't know of anyone whose has documented or has plans on rigging a boat? Looks like I maybe flying by the seat of my pants. Also what size hull are you using?

Yes! I have a homelite 26cc, I run direct drive, I cut the housing that come with the engine, joe amato souped up the engine for me, I'm running a
50" cracker box model. Sounds like the bell your refuring to is for a cluth drive
I have just completed my second cracker box, I also have the same "Homelite
engine in it.

Roldo modified my 30cc Homie with a water cooled head for me. His price was right and turn around was a week maybe.
This Website (http://testfly.0catch.com/homelite/379/engine379.html) also has a bunch of useful info on modifing 30cc Homies.
The WHH Hybrid kit works with a clutched Homie. You will need a mount and the WHH stuffing plate/mount is a good one, but I recommend going with a 4 point mount and the one from Marine Specialties is nice and it is also inexpensive.
Here is my 30cc Homie with the Roldo Marine cooled cylinder, Marine Specialties 4 point quick mounts, stuffing plate and big bore straight pull carb. This motor has a clutch.

I have a 28cc Yard Machines 2 cycle engine from a trimmer. Runs great but the clutch for starting is shot and the trimmer is in pieces.
Anyone need an engine?

One thing to think about. The saw engines turn the wrong direction for boat use. That is unless you get a cable wound the other direction and a reverse rotation prop.Easier to use the Homie or the trusted Zenoah engines.I use both.We don't race so the homie works well for the wife to run.Cheap too.Folks put them out by the curb for the trash man.Snatch it and discard all the unwanted junk, leave it by the curb for the trash man,and you have yourself a boat engine.Don't throw the cable away,it is your shaft for the boat.
