Thanks for the heads up ... looking at the cover, for a moment I thot Backyard Flyer got a new look ... but seriously, just a quick feedback - if the rag is going to continue being dumbed down, I will let my subsribtion lapse this year (pity, since I've have every issue from V1N1 ...). The only column I look forward to reading these days is Power On, and the occasional usefull ones. Enough of the good/better/best reviews.

I didn't get the May issue yet and I see it's in the LHS. Is mine lost?

If you haven't yet received your May issue, give us a call and we can see what the problem is. If there is no problem with your account, we can send you out an issue right away.

Will the Seattle WA. 3rd Annual Barn Owls/RAMS Indoor/Electric/Rubber/Swap Meet Fly In be covered in this issue?

Why do magazines keep reviewing all the Firebird type planes? FlyRc has already reviewed the one on the cover pictured, and every other plane of this type has been reviewed, most likely at least 3 times each. I dont want to pay for a mag with all these reviews, that invariably say the same thing: flies great, great fun for even experienced pilots. Review real airplanes, leave the firebird stuff to 'Backyard Flyer'.
OK, i realise that whoever pays for an a review gets one, but it would be much better if the stuff guys like Stevensaero, Toddsmodels, etc. got reviewed more often....

Oh no more Firebird type model reviews. When will they ever end.

There you go... But honestly, I have actually seen one (of many) of these machines actually fly. I guess all the other people who try to get these to fly must have missed the review of how easy/fun they are!<g>

Hey, don't knock the Firebird line.... They fly very well ... At least the ones I started with did way back when.... Best intro to flying out there right now IMO without a lot of cash up front... Although Tower's EasyStar RTF package is pretty good too (just trimmed out a newbie's the other day and it does fly nice) . Battery charger is garbage though :( .
That said, I am hoping QF will stay more focused on a more advanced EP audience ( you know like www.rcgroups.com ;) ). I like to see the motor tests, battery tests, gearbox pros/cons, soaring/3D/acrobatic techniques, building ideas, etc.... We can get the newbie stuff from BYF and others if interested...... Throw in some intermediate to advanced plane reviews to round it out. Just my two cents :) .

I wanted to give the opposite view of QF. I am a 100% electric flyer active in sport/parkflyer/indoor/3D (sort of) areas of RC. I am an EE by training and love the technology aspects of the hobby. I really think Wil and the team have done a great job regularly putting out a mag that targets the "rcgroups crowd". While I don't disagree that the Firebird-type plane on the cover is an odd choice for this audience, I just want to give Wil and the team credit for consistently putting out a mag where I reliably read almost all the articles. Occasionally there is a miss (I'm in the camp of voting for no babes on the cover ... not a prude just don't like it here) but in general the articles have a great level of depth on topics I am into. I occasionally get tempted to pick up a copy of Backyard Flyer and am always dissappointed. I also subscribe to RCMicroflight but for a good general focus on electrics, I really am pleased with QF.

I think QuietFlyer is a good magazine too, and i did not say that the Firebirds are all POS's, I said that there is no need to review and re-re-review each and every one of them. Give em their own magazine if they are so great! They could call it 'ProbablyNot Flyer', Megatech could have its own monthly column too.

I just don't think these Firebird types of models warrant the exposure they get and are certainly not front cover material. There are better choices for newbies as the "firebird" models don't prepare you well for more advanced models. The only advantage they have is that they're marketed better and you can find them in most hobby and toy stores. Never the less, I like Quiet Flyer, despite some of their choice of covers. I enjoy the content and look forward to each issue. I am a subscriber. Looking forward to reading the E3D vs Diablotin shootout mentioned on the cover since I have an E3D.

fwiw the 'old' QF (S&E) had better dose of technically oriented articles, which would have appleaed to yout EE backgroung (eg, build your own ESC, more aerodynamic articles, etc); imo the rag has 'dumbed down' over the past year or so.

I have no problem with Firebird type airplanes. They serve a good purpose in the hobby. But they are more at home at "Toys R US" and in "Backyard Flyer" than in a mainstream publication that should be targetinng a more advanced readership. Only my opinion.
I must admit that I am becoming more unhappy with "Quiet Flyer" with each issue I read.
