I want a little box that has a socket in it that I can plug a buddy cord into from my Hitec Flash 5. This box will have a lead coming out of it that will plug into one of my USB ports. This will enable me to use my Tx to control my flight sim–X-plane on Mac, OS9.

Any one able to help with a circuit diagram?

Please...

Rob.

I don't know of any free circuits. There are basically two ways to do it:-

Couple an R/C-to-Joystick circuit to a standard USB joystick port.

Program a USB-enabled MPU to translate the R/C signal directly into USB joystick protocol.

Here's a couple of commercial units:-

RC-Electronics (http://www.rc-electronics.co.uk/usb.htm)

Custom Electronics (http://www.customelectronics.co.uk/uindex.htm)

This one appears to use a PIC16C745 (http://www.microchip.com/1010/pline/picmicro/category/perictrl/14kbytes/devices/16c745/index.htm).

If you wanted to do your own, here is an an app note for the cypress single chip usb controller/processor. You would just have to change the routines that read the pots to read the PPM signal from the buddy port. National also has a usb chip that needs an external processor, but they have C source code for a joystick that you could probably modify to work with a pic or other processor you are familiar with.

Thanks Clipclop,

That is a great little program. I downloaded it last night and used the simple (non pic just a resistor and 2n2222) parallel cable for FMS. With Xp I can fly with FMS and Microsoft Flight sim.

I have been looking for something like that for ages

Best regards
Phil
