trying to scratch some combat planes together with foam cutter and trying to keep weight down.any suggestions????

There are lots of options for covering foam, what you use will be more a matter of preference and a tradeoff between different factors than anything.
Some of the options include:
- Ripstop Nylon (RSN) and Water Based Polyurathane (WBP)
- Bi-directional packing tape (bi-di)
- colored packing tape
- Icrex (might have the spelling wrong)
- ultracoke or other low-temp covering.
They all have advantages and disadvantages. RSN and Icrex are going to be the strongest, heatshrink is generally the weakest. RSN can be heavy and a bit messy to apply. Icrex is expensive stuff.
