Hey,
Where can I download some (read: a lot of) planes, heli's, scene's for FMS version 8 ???
I already know rc-sim (http://www.rc-sim.de)
Thanks.
Greetzzz,

Stay Tunned and I will make my model files available. Some photos of some cool stuff I've been working on.

Actually, there are still only a handful of models for FMS Alpha8. Making the new .PAR file is not trivial. I'm trying to make that easier.

Ther are a lot of models but I figured my FMS needed a bit of uniqueness thus my own MIA Micro-FLIGHT Helis.
This one is MIA Robin (1998), the base of all micro helis, the Piccolo, Hornet, Hummingbird, etc.

So should we expect that there will be more in the future available from various sources?
FMS8 is definately an improvement. Now we just need some variety.
Thanks,
Brad

777,
There will be more. We do not have to change the .x files or the .bmp image map files. We only need a new .par file. After we make it a bit easier to create the new .par files, there will be a flood of conversions from the old to the new. Right now, it takes a couple hours to figure out a new.
For grins, take an old .par file and compare it to a new one. For the Foamfly Frog plane I modeled, we have 26 lines for the old file and 318 lines for the new one. So, a bit of work there.

Garry,
Are you using the Par editor program to make the models V8.0 compatible?

Mario,
I'm using a combination of .mqo file analysis and general knowledge to create my .par files. I've shared all my knowledge and a program that'll help transpose a .mqo file to derive the 5 basic wing shapes from the 3D model.
You can find the links on the left hand side of My WebPage. (http://gunnerson.homestead.com/files/fms_models.htm).
The first Excel file compares the .par files of 4 models from the Alpha8 install program. The second helps create a .par file and explains what I know so far about them and how they work. The third link is my program for reading and transposing an .mqo file so it can be used to start a .par from scratch.
One thing I did note that I hadn't added to the file is that the old .par did include the 3 moments ixx, iyy and izz that could be used in the new .par format. In addition, I've found that the height above ground and wheel height are directly tied to the actual .x file. So if the model crashes when loading, you need to increase the wheel height or model height to compensate. The easiest place to read that data is from the 3D model.
Have at it!

GGunners,
Thanks for sharing with us the information on converting files. I have not played with such but eventually I would like to transpose my models for Ver 8.0. Hopefully soon.
Regards,
Mario

Gary,
This post edited. I Figure it out how to tweak the models, using PAR editor makes life easier. :)

I got V8 up and running last night.
I downloaded all the V8 planes I could find and I have issues with all of them.
I am looking for 2 basic models.
A 3-d plane (Tantrum ish if possible)
A more pattern plane (SA Groove like)
The vast majority of the existing planes of these types don't have enough rudder or aileron authority.
Most have to much elevator.
Does anyone know what sections in the .par files control rudder and aileron.

Typically surface 3 is elevator and surface 4 is rudder.
You can adjust surface area by chord & span of the total surface and control surface and the angle of deflection of the control surface.
WING //Flächen (surfaces)
//Fläche Nr. 3 Surface number 3, elevator, channel 2
-0.7685 0 -0.0405 //Position [m] (position)
1 0 0 //ex (unit vector in flight direction)
0 1 0 //ey (unit vector in direction of wing span)
1 //Polare (Nr.) (polar number used below)
0.5183 //Flächenbreite (Spannweite) [m] (surface width - span)
4 //Anzahl Elemente (number of elements)
AUTOELEMENT //Alle Elemente sind gleich gross (all elements have equal size)
0 //Anstellwinkel [°] (angle of attack)
0.1548 //Flächentiefe Anfang [m] (chord length at the first end)
0.1548 //Flächentiefe Ende [m] (chord length at the second end)
0.05 //Klappentiefe [m] (chord length of the flap)
0 //Klappenanfang [m] (start position of the flap)
0.5183 //Klappenende [m] (end position of the flap)
20 //maximaler Ausschlag [°] (maximum flap deflection)
2 //Kanal (channel)
//Fläche Nr. 4 Surface number 4, rudder, channel 1 (left rudder Cessna377)
-0.7581 -0.2653 -0.0820 //Position [m] (position)
0.96593 0 -0.25882 //ex (unit vector in flight direction)
-0.25882 0 -0.96593 //ey (unit vector in direction of wing span)
1 //Polare (Nr.) (polar number used below)
0.32 //Flächenbreite (Spannweite) [m] (surface width - span)
4 //Anzahl Elemente (number of elements)
AUTOELEMENT //Alle Elemente sind gleich gross (all elements have equal size)
0 //Anstellwinkel [°] (angle of attack)
0.26 //Flächentiefe Anfang [m] (chord length at the first end)
0.20 //Flächentiefe Ende [m] (chord length at the second end)
0.06 //Klappentiefe [m] (chord length of the flap)
0.05 //Klappenanfang [m] (start position of the flap)
0.30 //Klappenende [m] (end position of the flap)
-25 //maximaler Ausschlag [°] (maximum flap deflection)
