I bought a foam glider at Wally World that looks like an airliner that I'd like to make RC with either 2 GWS ducted fans or 2 or 4 GWS prop motors. It weighs 5 oz. still in the plastic bag and it says it has a 4 1/2' wingspan. Any ideas on which EDFs to use? Thanx, GWR

There are quite a few around, check this thread (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=207940) or do a search in the foamies forum:)

I did one with 2 GWS EDF50 fans attached to the fuselage sides like an A-10. Tried to send pictures to a thread on this plane currently running in the indoor flier forum, but couldn't get the file size small enough. I can e-mail pictures if you like. The jet is fast. It also needs a considerable amount of rudder and elevator to be maneuverable. I origionally cut the elevator and rudder along the lines that appear on the model. control was slow, not impossible, just slow for indoor flying. I will add area to the surfaces to make response quicker.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking of using ailerons/elevator for control. I'm also leaning towards 4 small prop motors just because it would look way cool. Thanks again, G

here is my Air Force Flyer conversion into a UPS DC-9. plane flies rock solid, i thought it would be a bit under powered but she flew very scale. No trim was necessary, very scale takeoff, nice touch and goes, and slow landings. I had full throttle on the takeoffs and about 3/4 while flying around. I was using the 2s2p lipo pack, i flew for about 6 min and only used 338mah out of the 2200mah of it.

WS: 36in
Wing Area: 189sq in
Wing loading: 14.476 oz/sq.ft
Weight: 19oz w/ 2s2p 2200 lipo
Motors: 2 EDF-55 300H
RX: GWS 4ch
Servo's: 4 5g(2 Aeil, 1 elev, 1 nws)
Batt: 2s2p 2200mah lipo or 8 cell 750mah AAA NIMH
ESC: CC Pixie 20P

Heli...for some reason i haven't seen them in Wally world in a long time. K-mart and Big lots had a few. But i ordered 5 from Tower Hobbies last year and converted 2. here is the link: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000179622&I=LXLFG1&P=K
Good luck, my next conversion will be a FEDEX DC-10.

Cool, Thanks G.

Im thinking Im going to order a few of these and convert one to df like yours. They look really sweet in the air and appear to fly just as nice. Post some pics of that DC-10 when you get going on it!!!

The company who makes them is--Life-Like Gliders----------1-800-638-1471
I have a company flyer with all the model pictures and part#.
Back of flyer has the sizes if somebody will take my scans and post them.

Thanks for the info. Can you purchase directly from Lifelike?

heli,
Yes you can, or so i was told by the operator at Life-like. Its actually a division of life-like called Lifoam. I got mine from Tower b/c i already had a large order coming from them, so i threw them in there.

I've seen them at Hobby-lobby (the craft store). I have toyed with converting one to EDF but too many other things get in the way,

Hey G,

I will probably just order from Tower too as I have a coupon from them to redeem. I wonder how much Lifoam sells them for? Would it be any cheaper? I have a couple GWS edf-50's I think might work on these planes. Right now they are mounted on the Turbojet 2000. Think they are too big for the plane? It has a 2ft wingspan.

Hi, 2 kg on weight? If I calculate correctly that is about 4 lbs. I think your best bet will be to go with 2 brushless motors and props, and Lipo battery pack. You can go with ducted fan units, but I think your going to need something in the 4" diameter fan range to get the thrust out of due to your
2 kg weight.
