Well, it was in perfect working order when I shelved it, but looking
at it a little bit ago, I've found the wood cockpit "skeleton" is
actually broken.. Further digging in my RC boxes revealed a parts bag
from Robbe that has brand-new wood pieces and a few other bits and
pieces.

Well, I thought they were ok, but closer examination shows a serious
ding in the leading edge of one and what apprears to be a crack at the
root. I've moved twice since I shelved this thing so I'm not entirely
surprised there's a little damage..

I don't think you could have called *ANY* of my hovers "superb". I
think the term "marginally adequate" would be more appropriate.

Yep although I'm not entirely sure WTF half of those goodies do...
I think I need a Glossary.. ehehh

Thet gyro itself is a FP-G3BB and seems to spin up just fine.. The
"brains" are, as you surmised, an FP-G153BB.
The rest of the gear is as follows:
Tx: JR Propo Century VII. Couldn't find a model number on it, but it
appears to be a heli/airplane radio. The Tx module is a NET-J72P and
it looks like the freq is 72.830 (Is that still a legal freq here in
the states?)
Rx is JR Propo NER-627X and also says "ABC & W Receiver" (What's ABC
& W??)
All 5 servos are JR Propo NES-L501s
Think this gear is still useful in a new(er) helo??
>This isn't the case with the Raptor V2. about as reliable a heli as you'll

I did find a semi-local shop (about a 30 mile drive) that does carry
Raptor parts and accessories so that's a bonus.. Since it looks like
a serious rebuild might be in order for the Schulter, it might be
better to pick up a new kit and start from square one.. Then again,
I've never backed away from any "interesting" challenges and it might
be kind of cool to rebuild this thing and make it fly again...
I'm sure with some time and the grand pool of knowledge here, I could
pull it off...

Hi Kevin...the other one lol.
This might work to give you a base point to work from, and its what I usually
do if I am setting up from scratch without instructions..
1) Check the swashplate moves in tune with the stick.. pushing forward on the
cyclic tips the swash down at the front/up at the back. Move stick left, swash
dips down on the left..etc
2) Tail works like this... stand a tail blade on end, move the stick left, the
back of the blade should move left. If it doesn't, reverse the servo.
3) the gyro works like this... move the tail control left, watch the servo arm,
and make a note of its direction. Now smartly jerk the nose of the heli right.
The servo arm should still move in the same direction(ie it should make a
'left' action as before). If it doesn't, reverse the gyro, not the servo.
4) check the movement of the throttle.. half stick should see carburettor half
open. Closed = closed and open = fully open.
5) with throttle/collective at quarter stick, pitch of blades should both be at
zero. It won't be perfect but will get you about right to start with.
6) Charge batteries as if you were going to fly. Collapse aerial and give it a
range check.. 30 meters is a good distance.
Do as many checks as you want to make sure the receiver battery will still be
performing after an hour of reasonable activity.
charge it back up again and see how you get on!!!!

Strangely, I've been known to do that too, although I add in the fear factor
when I'm teaching guitar.
If I'm teaching heli's, the guys KNOW that if they make a pigs ear of
things, the heli is likely to get hurt, so there's fear aplenty there, but
it's NOT there if they make a pigs ear out of a guitar piece. Unless I tell
them I'll kick the guitar out from under their arm :-)))

It must be a trend with you folks from the UK. He (my 1st instructor)
was of British origin and he'd scold me ferociously sometimes.
Unfortunately, my czech temper would bark right back so our
"relationship" didn't last too long. heheh

I've made plenty a guitar piece sound like a pig's ear. Been playing
since about 1980 and *STILL* do it from time to time.. Hmm. Much
like my G2 sim performances.. heheh
I've pretty much shelved the idea of resurrecting the JR-50 and am
actively shopping for a Raptor 50 kit. Anyone got any good (ie.e
cheap) places to buy 'em here in the States?
I've found 'em as low as $379 at donalds-hobby.com.. Any reputale
ebay'ers selling new kits??

That's the problem nowadays, no-one can have a good row without getting
pissed off:)

Can't help you there kev, but maybe Horizon Hobbies, or even import one from
someone like Cyberheli or RC Champ?

I wouldn't necessarily go with eBay for new kits, but Ctberheli have been
excellent to deal with and their prices are very good.

Had you been paying attention since the beginning of the thread, you'd
know the "JR" I'm "downgrading" from is a well-used and currently not
airworthy Schluter JR-50 - which parts are no longer available for.
Thanks for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you.

You need to spend some time flying a V2 Raptor Doug.

One should always be wary about bestowing such a title on oneself Doug,
that's for others to do.
