big bird advice

I'm building a big bird and have come to the wing joiner part. Actually the main joiner/brass tube assembly I understand. It's the rod or pin behind the main joiner that I'm unsure about. It's hard to tell from the instruction manual what goes where.

If someone has a closeup picture it would help me out alot.
