SBEC is now available in a 6V version (replaces 5 cell Rx packs) as well as the standard 5V version. Both versions can handle up to 50V input with surges up to 55V (12 Lipo's in series or 34 fully charged NiCd cells) and provide up to 2.5A continuous output. With 6V output, servo speed increases and the amount of current required is reduced for the same servo power output. These devices weigh 0.39oz and are suitable for a wide range of applications where weight is critical.

Traditional applications are in electric models (helicopters, scale models with many servos, etc) where ESCs built-in BEC's cannot handle the voltage of the main battery pack (usually limited to 10V or 12V) or when the current draw (many servos or high power servos) is beyond their capabilities.

More recent applications are in ultra-light slope soarers who wish to use LiPo technology. 2 LiPos in series (2s) with an SBEC weighs less than half of the equivalent NiCd arrangement - without the drawbacks of NiCd memory effect. Using 3s LiPo's (or more) takes advantage of much lower current draw from the battery pack to run servos, receiver, etc (I=P/V means that if V increases, I decreases, where I is current). This is useful in ultra-light electric (motorized) soarers who need to retain as much power as possible for powered climb-outs.

Yeah, sorry Keith and others, we've had a major hold up in the delivery of components - they'll only be ready in 4 weeks :-( I'll publish a notice the moment they're off the production line and get stock to your local dealers asap. Not 100% sure, but aircraft-world might have stock.

ok thanks,

I'm currently designing a project car which probably won't be finished till spring or summer of 05 so no rush. Just looking for a supplier and if you'll have it in a month or two that's fine.

Thanks,
Keith
