First time posting. I have been lurking for a bit. I flew gliders in the late 70s early 80s then kids happened;)

My OlyII, in need of repairs sat in the garage rafters for the last 20+ years. Now I find out that I had some mini bears in the garage that like the tast of BALSA:mad:

So I went to the only REAL hobbyshop in my area and picked up a Sig Riser and now have balsa dust all over the place.

The question is should I add spoilers to the plane or not???

There is an acre of room for servos and weight does not seem to be an issue either.

I plan on flying slope and maybe some Thermal [there is a club near me that flys most Saturdays]

Thanks,

Dan in Diamond Bar, CA

.. don't expect to contest, I wouldn't bother.

Energy can be controlled well enough to land close to yourself without spoilers.

If you slope and the LZ is tight, thass anudder story...;)

Oh, welcome back!

I decided to go with two channels on this one, and might go with spoilers on the next. [I have a 20 yr old sophisticated Lady that I will be builing next ]

You should spend a season learning to accurately land the riser without spoilers before you either add spoilers to the riser or get another glider with spoilers.
Beware of the fuse on the S. Lady. It breaks easily just ahead of the tail. The stock setup has long slots right there to allow the pushrods to exit the fuse. You might use standard pushrods (DuBro) instead of the floating balsa. Minimize the exit holes in the fuse and fiberglass the area to add strength.

Thanks for the tips on the lady, I only use DuBro push rods. I would be afraid to use the balsa push rods as I have had some ah... less than smooth landings ;)

My Oly had spoilers, I found them fun to dump when landing. Not sure I ever NEEDED them, but it was fun....

Spoilers are great to have. You don't have to use them but it is nice to have the option to help you get out of a powerful thermal, or to get down on a landing when you came in too hot.

I have them on both my 2 meter planes. I use them when I need them, not all the time.
