I am working on updating my 1/48 u212. It is listed in the show your subs post below this one. Will have a revised sail and nose area now that there are pictures available. Let me know if you are interested. I might be able to lay one up for you.

Darrrin,
What would you charge for a hull?

Darrin-- any pics ofyour boat? How much for a hull?

I have a Gordon Lewis typ 202 post war coastal sub. 1/32 scale. I've had it for years and have just started working on it again. Pretty cool hull. It is hands down the best fiberglass work I've ever seen.

David,
Check out the following link. The boat is not mine. I found it on the net while searching for info on the Sjoormen and 212.

Does anyone have a link to plans?

David-- Do you know if Gordon Lewis has a website? Gordon and I used to correspond regularly via Airmail in the days before email. I bought a Gordon Lewis typ202 hull from Skip in 1992 or '93 and installed some gear and then lost interest in subs. I lost touch with Gordon soon after that. I still have his address and if I can't find an email address then I'll just write to him. I want him to know that I'm finally getting around to completing the 202.

Mike,

Nope. Sorry. I got mine through Donny Francis who was - for a very brief time - serving as Gordon's American distributor.

Ah, the infamous Donny Francis.

Anyway, regarding the Sjoormen, I'll email Cord Schroeder to see if he is selling hulls/sails/appendages and at what price. Gordon sent me the snapshots that I mentioned. Really nice. If I can figure out how to scan them I will and post them.

Mike,

... yeah. Is he out of jail yet? And did he burn you on one of his Disney NAUTILUS'?

I love those bow planes!

No, I was lucky. I was probably one of the few guys in the SUBCOMMITTEE back then who was never a big Nautilus fan. So he finally got caught. Too bad for all the guys who lost $$ though. This hobby is not cheap and to get taken like that stinks.

So, what's your latest project? Any movie stuff?

Mike,

Donny took me by securing my endorsement - I gave him a plug in my column (I've since resigned from the Subcommittee). Ugh! Unfortunately there have been more than one scoundrel running with the money. Donny Francis is not the only crook out there. Yes, this hobby is not cheap.

Ellie and I thought Crimson Tide would be our last movie/TV job, what with the increasing use of CGI. However, recently, we were commissioned to build and operate a 1/12 scale miniature of the Civil War era Federal submarine, ALLIGATOR. The master is almost done and I should have the model in the water by the end of July. It will appear on the Discovery Channel sometime next year. Principle underwater photography will be done at the David Taylor MASK basin later this year.

I'll write the ALLIGATOR project up for MMI. I'm shooting tape as I progress with the build. I will likely offer an overview of the project as a commercial DVD as well.

Oh ... while I'm whoring my stuff here: there's a DVD available chronicling my building of an r/c FLYING SUBMARINE (FS-1) based on the twenty-four inch wide Rick Teskey kit. You can purchase the video from www.CultTVman.com. Or, you can buy it from me for twenty bucks.

Here's a look at some stills of the FLYING SUBMARINE project:
