View Full Version : TRX 2.5 vs OSEngines .21

I've been into the electric R/C car scene for a while and I want to
make the jump to Nitro. A few kids in my neighborhood just bought
Tmaxx trucks with the TRX 2.5 motor. The trucks look pretty powerful
compared to electric.
I did some research online and it appears that the TRX 2.5 motor in
these trucks is getting favorable reviews. The TRX 2.5 motor has a
fairly small displacement (2.5 cc, about .15 cu-in). How would this
motor compare to a bigger motor from OSEngines, like an OS .21
(3.46cc, .21 cu-in)?

The 2.5 ss a great engine. It'll save on fuel and is powerful enough to
wheelie the T-Maxx. The OS .21 is also a great engine, and will outperform
the 2.5, but will suck down fuel like Mt. Dew on a hot day. Also consider
that running the .21 will require a larger maintenance budget, since it will
stress the driveline more. Since you are already looking at the T-Maxx, I
suggest you get one, and then get a .21 conversion later, after you learn
the ins and outs of nitro. Also consider that running the .21 will require
a larger maintenance budget, since it will stress the driveline more.

Doesn't the Kyosho Mad Force use the OS .21? That's a truck I'm interested
in.

Can an OS .21 conversion be done in a T-Maxx?

A big-block .21 will generally have more torque than a smallblock .15,
although the horsepower ratings may be similar.
The .21 will weigh more and likely drink more fuel.
I'd run the guts out of the 2.5 and then move up to a bigblock if
you're so inclined.
