I have had three speed controls quit on me. The throttle stops
reponding completely, but, the steering still works? They are mostly
novak speed controls-high end. Is there any way that I can fix these
at home, or are they done? Any Ideas on how I can avoid this problem?

maybe some engine problem killing your speedo.
You have to give us more info.

your engine
Battery
running time
gear ratio.

You are using all three capacitors as Novak requires, right?
That is the only reason I know of that the motor can cause failure.
The other thing is to make sure the load on the ESC don't exceed
the limits, the gearing of the motor helps keep the load within limits.
If the motor gets too hot to touch, then it is over geared.

Hope this helps.

Does the ESC require a Schotkey diode? If so, check to make sure the diode
isn't shot. Or just replace it.
Those diodes prevent spikes of current going back to the ESC when brakes are
applied. If the diode is shot, you could be damaging the esc every time you
hit the brakes.
