This is my first build thread. I am trying to keep the origin of this design anonymous. Some of you may recognize the sub. I did change the propulsion to a single motor/prop but kept the twin tails (upper and lower). The master was made in a half model format. I used automotive sculpting clay (4 years as a design sculptor for a major auto manufacturer) and an ultracal plaster mold. The first pics are from this morning. I am starting on the 3.5 inch WTC. I plan on turning the endcaps next week. Power will be a pittman motor. Main control is from the two large elevons(3x5 inches) in the tail. The twin rudders will also be used for lateral control. The model should "fly" very similar to an aircraft and will be a dynamic diver with failsafe weight drop. Most of its use will be in an olympic pool but plan on taking it to the lake regattas also. I am also vacforming the bubble nose this week. What do you think??

It looks like it can go from 20,000 leagues and then to mars!!!

Darrin,

Very nice, will you use an external prop or some sort of pump jet?

Have you figured out what motor your going to use and how to seal it? Id be interested in hearing what your planning. Im planning a sub simular to yours but more of a observation type sub than flying. Just worried about the shaft seal for the motors though. It will be used in salt water so I plan on making it tethered to a buoy boat with a retractable control line.

Darrin,
Can you tell more about the automotive sculpting clay and the ultracal plaster. I'm about to get started on a Swedish coastal sub and I'll need to mold parts. I'd planned on using foam for the sculpted parts but I like the idea of the clay then plaster for the mold.

Cool model, Deep flight 1 along with the aviator are just down the street from me. I run my sub in back of their shop.

BTW they are very cool and love RC subs.

Thats funny, I just pulled it out of the rafters last night. Having a major problem with my Delfin so I decided to have another look. The problem with this boat is... Look in picture 2 and you will see A-symmetry from top to bottom where the clear dome goes. The model was built in halves and joined with me assuming everything was as planned. I am trying to adjust this with some grinding and squeezing but it is going to be a bit of work. Really concentrating on my XXIII right now and trying to fix the troubled Delfin.

Tell you what. The Deepflight would make a super half kit when done.

Really nice to see a non military boat modelled for a change.

Have look here for some other inspiration-

Found that site the other day, some lovely stuff there.

I've got the deepdive, bought it a while a go with a leaking WTC. From what I've seen, they can be improved greatly.

Here is a 'slightly changed' version.
