View Full Version : Is it worth shipping from overseas?

Is it worth shipping something from overseas (Japan) to the USA or will the
shipping cost negate the savings?

Depends on what you get. I see most smaller items costing US 15-25
bucks for shipping. Larger items like the Raptor 30 V2 kit average
about 60 bucks for parcel post, 75 for courier service.
In my case, here in NJ, local sellers (and most web sellers) wanted
$400.00 for the kit (add another 24 bucks for sales tax local). Over
seas, I saw the same kit for around $350.00. Add the 60 bucks for mule
delivery, and I was pretty much back to the average local price.
I ended up buying the kit for $380 + $18 shipping from www.ronlund.com
in TX.

Tricky question because here in God's Own Country we pay thru (Thats to make
you feel at home) the nose for anything model related, so buying in US
dollars right now saves us about half the total price. Since you live in a
dollar economy its rather more tricky. We do it for cost, not much else.

Erm, David, I think you'll find you live just south of, or next door to
"God's own country"
And no, we don't think the yanks are conceited.
A fine race of law abiding, helpfull, god fearing folks.
Who still drive on the wrong side of the road. ;-)

As does most of the world, so which side is the correct side.
Let's take a vote, shall we?

Well Sweden was the last country to change sides (went from the left to the
right 1971)
they did do it in a staged manner though.
Lorries and buses on the monday
cars & taxi's on the tuesday
Motor cyclists and bicycles on the wednesday.
You'll notice most countries who drive on the left use manual gearboxes
Most who drive on the right use autos.
Gues those who drive on the left have a better feel for their vehicles . . .

Real American car enthusiasts drive manuals as well.
Here, we have a saying.
"There are 2 types of cars, Manuals and Womanuals.
Autos are for wussies, whatever road you're on, whatever country you're in.

EssGee, the bit you missed was "thru" rather than "through". I'm not even
going to get into what that tells us!
As for this being GOC, it's called 'humour', sorry, 'humor'. At least Roy
got it.

Absolutely no way whatsover to get decent air con on a bike in the desert.
Absolutely no way whatsover to get decent heating on a bike in the winter.
Never yet seen an ashtray work worth a damn on a bike.
Would be hugely impressed if yer girlfriend could give you a blowj*b while
you are riding a bike.
Cars, may be for wusses, but they do have their advantages.
P.s. given that I've been married for 12 years now, what is a blowj*b ?
