View Full Version : GV-1 and curves?

Just curious what you other guys do with your curves underneath a GV-1.
In the manual it says specifically to run a linear curve? So if you
want to fly without the GV-1(I know you won't but just for arguments
sake)you'll have to put up with a throttle that will not give a good
constant headspeed. Or am I missing something?

I don't know what everyone else does Phil, but what *I* do is run my normal
(non governed) curves so that if the gov goes tits up, I've got my original
curves to fall back on. the only real criteria for the curves are that they
don't drop below the trigger point that switches the gyro ON.
If it does (and you use stick switching to turn the gyro on) then it also
switches it off when you pull right back on the throttle and the rotor speed
drops below 70% of the programmed speed.
Just stick with the curves you were using before you fitted the GV and
you're "sorted".

I've played quickly but only on the ground so far and it seems to
function OK.

Not going to be a problem as it's on a switch :-).

New ship so curves aren't fully sorted yet, first run yesterday and she
was screaming like a banshee!! Not thinking I setup the normal throttle
curve for hovering around half stick and the pitch curve I'd set for
3/4 stick, a bit of fine tuning needed I think.

That's good.

I'm not sure that's going to be the case Phil, reason being, the GV-1 has to
meet two conditions before it switches on or STAYS switched on. Those are
the throttle is above the trigger point AND the rotor speed is 70% (or
above) that whih you've programmed into it. If EITHER drop below the trigger
points, the gov switches off and don't go thinking this is a BAD thing, coz
it's a very very GOOD thing. If you slap the deck at full bore and the gov
DIDN'T switch off, your lovely heli would be even more badly trashed as the
power is still being fed into it. As things are, the gov will switch off
when those rotors hit.

With the gov or without it? If it's with then lower the curve and if it's
WITH it, turn the rotor speed number down.

Yep, but don't batter your head doing it, coz the GV's aren't prone to
failing too often.

Ah - but you forgot there are 2 ways of switching on the gov Kev. Yes -
both methods require >=70% of programmed rotor speed for the gov to kick in
BUT only when using "stick switching" does the throttle have to be >20% to
switch to the "on" condition. If not using stick switching, you can turn
the gov on & off with a switch so regardless of throttle position, so long
as the rotors are >=70% speed, the gov is active.

That's what I thought, well at least that's what my GV-1 does, if I
land and bring the stick down to zero in normal it still holds the set
speed!!

You're dead right John, I did forget. It comes from never using a seperate
switch on my GV, although I did (once) on my Robbe gov.
