...line starts here (couldnt resist) http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/tongue.gif... does wrapping ur TX in foil significantly reduce any interferance problems? Also, i have a futaba skysport TX that i want to use for my Hawk which has a hitec feather in it. Will changing the TX crystal to the same channel enable me to do so?

Hi Mike

Im considering a feather receiver, but the online store I was going to purchase from advertises the feather as 36Mhz (we use this freq. in Australia) but when I go to order it is listed as a 72Mhz receiver(this freq. is illegal as far as I know in Aust.)

Now I was wondering if Hitech make 36Mhz receivers for the Australian market or if these are actually 72Mhz units that still work at 36.(just a guess seeing that 36 is half of 72)
Many Thanks

dezflyer- Do What?!?!?! I have no idea... I don't see any need to wrap your transmitter in foil. If you are having reception problems send it in and have it checked out.

MrBungle- It will come on the frequency that is legal in the country you order it in. You cannot get a 36mhz receiver in the US or a 72mhz in Australia.

J Bergsmith- Cost! All the radios the Eclipse competes against use a 600mah TX battery. You will get at least two hours of flight time on the transmitter, which is typically about what you'll get from the receiver. You can always upgrade to a NiMh like I did do and almost triple the run time.

I use a Sanyo 1600mah NIMH Transmitter pack and couldn't be happier. Especially when I forget to charge the night before. Plus, it will take a quick charge if for some reason I do manage to drain it in a day. A very good $25 purchase for me.

hi mike, got my new eclipse 7 radio with spectra module and must say i,m glad i waited for it . got mine from hobby horse and it came in a box that is not the spectra module box will this be a problem if i have to ever send it in for repair? i do have the reciept for the correct system and i think they made it up from a couple of sets in order to make me happy which i am , they were great to deal with , Jim even offered me his if he couldnt get one to me in time for a contest i needed this radio for ! .
at first i thought the system was kinda scratched up looking but acouple other guys were the same and we discovered that there is a very thin protective plastic film on the screen and the metallic surfaces that comes off and its bright and shiny!!!! love the radio and thanks for a great product.

OK, I've looked through the book and I can't find the answer. I am trying to get this plane ready to go for a friend, so my wife can take it to him when she leaves tomorrow (flying north). Help!
Here is the problem: I have a V-tail plane that is setup with 4 servos. 2 for the rudder/elevator-vtail and 1 for each aileron. I can enable V-Tail mixing to get the elevator/rudder working, but I can't figure out how to enable the ailerons (only the aileron on channel 1 is responding). I need to setup the aileron mixing from channels 1 to 6 like in differential, but that mixing option is on the same setup menu (as far as I can tell). How do I setup both V-Tail and the two ailerons, is this even possible. I plan to try and call Hitec tomorrow if "we" can't figure it out - but this is perplexing.

Here is the "desired" setup:

Channel 1 - Aileron number 1
Channel 2 - V tail elevator
Channel 3 - Throttle
Channel 4 - V tail rudder
Channel 5 - empty
Channel 6 - Aileron number 2 (mixed)

Any guesses? (I'm going to copy this to the Ask Mike at Hitec Forum in case no one here knows...)

Or do I just have to Y- connect the Aileron channel 1... (would prefer a computer mix if possible)
Can it be done fellow Prism owners?!?

Thanks!

Just set up my Eclipse on elevons.
The trim tabs now operate in reverse.
Is there a fix?

As I live in Poway, I went to the Hitec office. Mike and Tony got right on the problem. Resetting the radio and starting over cured the problem (thar be gremlins on the ground too!)

I just received my Hitec Eclipse 7 and want to program spoilerons.
The manual talks about flaps and flaperons all day long with no mention of spoilerons.

I am wanting to use this function on my Elipsoid.

We have a competiion coming up this weekend and would appreciate any quick suggestions besides call Hitec. ( They are on West Coast time)

Also...do I need to program up or down elevator with spoilerons? Where should I start on the elevator throw percentage???

I just purchased the new Eclipse 7 channel radio. I have flown either Kraft or Futaba for the past 20 years, it was hard to buy some other brand. Bottom line is I'm glad I did, very nice radio. But I do have a question, why put such a small battery in the transmitter? The 600ma battery is the same battery that comes with your 3 channel fm sets. I think you need more battery in the computer radios considering they place more demand on the juice than your 3 channel does.
Mike this is not a complaint, please don't take it that way. I very happy with the radio!!!!!

Mike, I have a flash 5xg and need to connect a buddy box to run a zagi (mixing required) which radios will help me do this. I have an old futaba tx acting as a buddy but it will not use the mixing set up on my Flash. Do I have to have another Flash 5 XG, Will a Flash 4 or 5 work? What are my options, if any? Thanks, Joe

Mike,
I just got my Eclipse and I was wondering if you could make available a PDF file of the "model data recording sheets" that are in the back of the manual. The ones in the manual look useful, but a full page version would work better for my bad eyes.

johnpmartins- It's best to send in the transmitter because it could be that the meter is out of calibration. Make sure you put a note in with it about the hat. Nice collection you have going there! http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/smile.gif

sloper- That shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for the good words. Enjoy it!

Cash Traylor- You can't get flapperons and V-tail at the same time with the Prism. Sorry! In the past I have used an inline V-tail mixer to get it to work or use a Y-harness for the ailerons but you may have to reverse one of the servos. The Eclipse has no such limitations!

frankenfoamy- That's a new one. Please E-mail our service manager Tony @ mailto:tonyo@hitecrcd.com

JMEYERS- Spoilerons are set the same way as Flapperons you just make the ailerons go up instead of down. Try 5% up elevator to start.

JoeR- You're going to need another Flash as a buddy box to use the mixing.

Mike.

I just bought a Eclipse Spectra as well. I too wondered about the weak choice for batteries. I choose this radio to operate all my planes(5) so the batteries in the planes will deifinitely outlive my transmittter pack. Today I was out for 4 hours with 3 transmitters. When I figure out the Ecplise, it will be the only one I bring. This Nimh pack you speak of, is it for sale from Hitec or do people make them up from a RS1600 or simular?

Thanks,

MIKE

Mike-
We carry 8 cell NIMH packs that were originally designed for high current motor runs. They use 8 SANYO 1600 NIMH cells in a 2X2X2 brick configuration, just like the packs already in the radio, and are used for Speed 400/480 planes. They run $24 right now on Sale.
Well, since the layout was the same, I had a few made with thinner leads instead of the 16 gauge silicone leads we put on the motor packs so that they would fit in a radio. The only thing is that the wall charger puts out 55 mah, and that takes over 30 hours to charge it! I use my fast charger, but connect directly to the battery. If you use the radio leads to charge it, any charge over an amp or so would probably be too much for the thinner leads, so just slow it down a little.
But if I forget to charge the TX batteries, I can go anyway, all day long. Especially on a higher drain radio like the Eclipse.
The other nice thing is that these Sanyo NIMH cells do not really have a voltage drop at these slower discharge rates, so the voltage stays as high as nicads. The discharge curve is very flat.
A lot of peace of mind for $24.

Mike,

Trying to use a Jeti 050 with a flash 4, but I can't get the 050 to stop beeping. I have trimmed the throttle to zero, the EPA is set to 100, and I have tried using normal and reverse servos settings, as well as turning on the system at no, low, mid, and high throttle settings. Any ideas?

techroscope- We're working on the .pdf file for the manual that will include that sheet.

Fred Bronk- You know it!

lymon- Oh boy... the flood gates open!

Clayton- Sorry no, they can't be converted. See if your shop will take back the radio... I mean the receivers for the proper shift.

johnpmartins- Thanks but watch the language, I try to run a clean show around here! http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/smile.gif

sf_247- It could be that the meter is calibrated a little low. I usually get about 10.8 after the first minute.

mikeb33- The NiMh pack I use was purchased from Maxx Products. Hitec does not sell any NiMh packs at this time.

martin johnson- We can recalibrate the meters if you need. On some of the Jeti ESC's they require more travel so you may have to remove the stops on the gimble. You can also try setting the EPA to 125%

Cash Traylor- No problem! http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/smile.gif

Mike, I have the new Eclipse 7 channel, I like the radio alot until I realized a small issue in the sailplane program. If you have an electric glider you cannot utilize the glider menu because it does not allow you to use the throttle stick, just a throttle switch. Hi Mike,
Sorry if it has been asked already. If I have a Zagi-like aileron only plane and Eclipse, what can I do to take full advantage of the Eclipse7?

I am a little confuse and nervous about using both elevron Enabled and aileron differential settings (EPA end-point-adj on ch1 and ch6).

Can you try to clearify? Which make more sense, the ch1 and ch2 ELEVRON ...
or ch1 and ch6 split-aileron?

Thanks,

mikeb33- You can get the connector from Maxx Products.

J Bergsmith- Since the throttle gimbal becomes channel 6 for the crow function you can't use it for power. Ch 3 becomes the Ele D/R switch for on/off control. If you need variable speed you'll have to use the Acro menue.

jas_Qfix- You have to use ELevon for a flying wing. To get differential set the control surface that goes down to around 60% to start.

martin johnson- You have to send it to us or another authorized service center.

Hey mike, I wanted to know what the extra contact switch in the flash 5x does. It is just to the right of the dn/timer button and you can see it thru an access whole behind the front cover of the radio. You have to peel off the flash 5 system x sticker to see the access hole. Please tell me, I really really what to push that button. The curiosity is killing me. I can barely resist pushing it. Aaaaaggghhh.

Mike: Have a pair of Hitec radios and a Sky Scooter. Love it all! But have you considered putting instructions of some sort with your parts? I just converted the Scooter to the geared-drive setup, using all factory parts. Between the gearbox and the prop, there were a whole bunch of tiny pieces, and not a hint anywhere, even in the manual! On the other hand, my 8-year-old and I figured it out in less time than a "Barney" episode, so maybe I'm just whining...

Mike,

Here's a handicapped access question for you,

My older (not X) Flash 4 has a low batt warning beep that is in a range of hearing that I have lost. I can only hear if if I turn my head to one side and get real close. This is mission critical for me as my rcvr batts far outlast my trans. Can you get me the specs on that beeper component so that I can choose a suitable replacement of a different, more audible frequency? Perhaps I could put a resistor in line?
Thanks,
dang

OK, maybe I'm not whining. After two very poor-performance flights and lots of close inspection, I've noticed the threads in the folding prop's hub are completely stripped, so the prop either slips badly or just flies off. Is this common? Is there a fix, besides replacement?

MikeMayberry
May 29, 2001, 05:33 PM
jtthebiggafigga- That's the self destruct button... don't push it!

ifxmnfly- The Focus 3 FM would work fine because the ESC drops the voltage to the receiver through the BEC. What motor are you planning on running?

U2Steve- That sounds like a good idea. I'll look into it since so many people are upgrading their Pro's to the gearbox. No it's not common but it can happen. Once you strip the plastic there's not much you can do. You might opt for the prop adapter and APC prop. See: http://www.funtecmodels.com/skyscooter/hopups.htm

JoeR- Yes, any Flash will work. The slave does not need to be on, nor does it even need a battery.

dang- Sorry I don't know of any way to do what you want to do.

I was helping a newbie friend of mine on Saturday, and his Focus 3 AM began to act very strangely. Both the green and amber lights came on at the same time, and the plane ceased to get any signal at all from the transmitter. All the more experienced flyers tried to help this guy troubleshoot the situation, but we couldn't make any sense out of it. The rx appeared to be fine, so we concluded the problem was in the tx. Is this a known condition? Anything to do other than send the unit back to you guys? Thanks.

Mike-
I had a couple of questions about the Eclipse 7 and whether you think it would fit my needs. First is it going to be offered with the TX only? I already have 555 receivers and have no need for any more receivers. Second, I currently have a Futaba 6XA radio which I like very much and wish I could use forever...but it only has a 3 model memory and I'm about to get that third model, so after that I might be out of luck. I am just looking into possibilities, but I would be looking for something with exchangeable data modules and all of the major computer functions. Does the eclipse fit this? I was just looking at the 8UAF but I can only get it w/the Futaba rcvr & servos which is a real negative. If the Eclipse is not being sold as a TX only I would recommend that because I think there would be quite a few people who are just looking to swap out their tx and would be less likely to do so if they had to spend the extra to buy some stuff they will never use. Thanks and sorry for the long post-
Andrew

Neil Morse- Sound like it needs to be sent in for repair.

Jimonline- The Flash 4 or 5 are good choices. However if you step up to the Eclipse it may be the last radio you ever buy for a long time! For more info check out: http://www.hitecrcd.com/Catalog/Air/radios/radios.html

AndrewK- Yes, you can get just the transmitter alone with the Spectra module that you can select any channel for less than $250. No, there are no data modules like the 8UAF but it does have 7 model memory, costs much less and has similar features.

Kind of a simple question but I gotta ask. I fly Airtronics equipment and I was wondering if when buying a receiver I have to buy the Airtronics/JR version or can I get the Futaba version? Are the receivers different for the different shifts or is it just the connector blocks? If the receievers are the same then are the crystals for Airtronics/JR different? I don't recall seeing a mention about this. Thanks.

Mike,

The topmost gear on the Hitec HS81 plastic gear servo doesn't have full lentgth teeth all the way around as anyone who has taken one apart knows. And when the servo "centers" it doesn't center in the exact middle of the toothed part on every servo (do I have some bad servos?).

On the servo(s) that don't center in the center . . . 125% End Point Adjustment takes the top gear right out to the end of its toothed section - barely making contact on that last little gear tooth.

Something seems flakey about that so I've been hesitant to dial in 125% unless I opened up the servo which I don't want to do.

??Maybe the short tooth gears are good enough for the last few % because the leverage on the servo would be very little at that angle??

??So, dial in 125% and feel secure the the servo will hold under normal use or not??

Mike,

I have two feather receivers with nasty reception problems. I get 20 feet with the antenna down and maybe 100 feet with a glider and much less with a RF creating motor up front. I just thought I had an issue with indoor flight but it's almost worse outside.

I'm so happy with every other product you folks make, but this Feather Rx is just plain bad news.

I'm almost to the point of sending a video tape showing the range problems. Where do I send it?

Also, what's the turn around time if I send them in.

Hi Mike, I was directed to you for an answer to my query..... I found a couple of unused Hitec HS205BB servos in my bits box. I bought them in Australia a few years ago and would now like to use them for the rudder and elevator on a Multiplex Kranich electric glider. Do you have any data on these servos? Are they suitable?
Thanks, Scud.

MikeMayberry
Jun 05, 2001, 07:05 PM
Aviron- No, the Futaba compatible receiver will not work with your Airtronics radio because it is a different shift mode. Hitec does make receivers for all brands of radios including the old Airtronics connectors but if you are using the new "Z" connector you'll need the JR/Airtronics version. You can also get the shift selectable version of the Supreme that will work with any transmitter.

Balin- I've never heard of that being a problem.

mrtim- That's not good... send them in and we will repair or replace them at no charge. The turn around time right now is about 10 working days... sorry it's the busy season! Send to: 12115 Paine St. Poway, CA. 92064

Scud- They should be fine. They are the same servo as the 225 with a little less speed and torque. If I remember right the specs are: (.16@45in/oz) 4.8V

I was thinking about getting the tx only of the new Eclipse with the Spectra module. Can I use this with my old Futaba FM rx's? One is from an old FG series and the other is from a 5NLH. They are currently still in use and I'd like the features of that new radio.

Thanks,
Brian Christie

P.S. The Hitec site needs an e-mail address for questions.

blfinche- No, you need at least 6 channels for flaps.

gnofliwr- It's a great little single conversion FM receiver that has sold in European for years now. I wouldn't hesitate to fly it.

berniep1- The HS-25 is a hoax!

Aviron- Yes, or the shift selectable version. The crystals are all the same for any version of Hitec dual conversion receivers. Part# 66772XX (XX= CH#)

brianchristie- Yes, the Eclipse will work with any manufactures FM receiver.

Hi Mike,

You told blfinche that you need an at least 6 channel receiver for flaps when he asked about flaps/spoilerons.

I'm confused I thought that for spoilerons I'd need 5 channels. E, R, a servo for each aileron and speed control.

I ordered an NES AirCamper which is supposed to have spoilerons and they sell it with the 555.

Thanks,
RB

Hey Mike! I think it's great you get on here and help us! This may be a dumb question, but what size and pitch is the stock Skt Scooter folding prop? And also, how is it mounted. Does it need an adapter or does it fit right on the gear box shaft? At our local feild we fly combat with some home made foamies and we need a cheap prop for obviuos reasons. Last question, is the stock SS motor 6 or 7.2v?

Mike,
First off let me say that I love your servos. I think they are a great value. Having said that let me say that the only trouble I've ever had is with one of my 225MGs. I've got these running the ailerons in the wing of my J3, on a 5 cell RX pack. The plane has yet to be in the air and the servos have only been cycled for setup purposes. One day one of the servos started making a nasty noise so I pulled it. Upon opening the case I noticed that the shaft for the middle set of gears looked as tho it had gotten extremely hot as it had melted itself out of its pocked in the top of the case. The shaft is also bent.

Unfortunately the servo is no longer under warranty. I was looking on the HitecRCD site to see about replacing the case and gears. I cross referenced the part numbers I found on your site with numbers on the Tower site. From the looks of things it appears that the 225MG gear set is also the same set used in the Hobbico/Tower CS/TS-71 servo. I also found the case for the Hobbico/Tower CS/TS-35 has the same part number for the 225. Is this true?

I had a feeling that you guys built the servos for Tower and Hobbico so it's no surprise that they may share the same part #'s. I just want to make sure that the gear/case set(s) are one and the same before I place an order.

Upon reassembly what kind of grease should I use on the gears?

Thanks

Tom

Mike,

I reciently bought a Flash 5X with a 555 reciever. I have used a Deans whip antenna with an old Futaba AM system with good results. Is this ok for my new Hitec? If yes then what would the ideal total length of wire between the RX board and the Deans?

Mike,

Just so I don't spend a lot of money for the wrong thing:

I fly at South Shores in San Diego. It gets pretty crowded sometimes. I have a Flash 5x and several receivers all on the same channel. Often I don't get to fly as someone is on my channel.

I'm thinking to get the Eclipse with Spectra and several Hitec 555 Receiver crystals in different channels so I can switch them into my receiver (after checking to see if that channel isn't being used). Switch the Spectra to the new channel and fly. This is the idea behind the Spectra, right?

Thanks, Balin

Mike,
First let me echo the majority of the comments here. Hitec makes a great product, I have a Flash 5X and got my Eclipse with a Spectra Module about 3 weeks ago.

I think I toasted something though :-(. Someone told me you could use the Futaba training cord with the Hitec equipment. I don't think you can. I hooked up the Eclipse as the instructor and the Flash 5X as the student. The Eclipse was turned on, the LBAT warning was on as soon as I turned it on. I smelled something electrically getting hot and it was coming from the Flash 5X. I think I had it hooked up for about 30 seconds. I disconnected the setup and tried both transmitters and they both seem to be working as normally, but I'm afraid I've damaged my 5X and worse yet maybe my Eclipse. I've seen your suggestion to send equipment to the factory in Poway, but can't find the address.

Is this still an option?
Can you provide the address again?

Thanks,

Red Baron 47- Flaperons/spoilerons are different than just spoilers. You will need a 6 channel receiver for spoilerons but you can just use the two position switch on ch5 for spoilers.

coolieo- The direct drive prop is a Gunter 125mmx110mm (5.2"x4"?) it just pushes on. You can get them from a number of different manufactures. We use the 7.2v S400.

Aero-BearAZ- If the pin got hot enough to melt the case then there is something else wrong. I would send it in and let us take a look at it. If there were to be a charge we would let you know. Yes, the parts are the same as Hitec does make a majority of the Hobbico servos. We sell our servo grease separately but white lithium grease works well.

dwatkins- Smoke is bad! Send it in and we'll fix you up. The typical charge is $0.

Francis Person- It should be fine as long as you get a good range check. Consult the antenna instructions for the proper length. It should be the same as the Futaba.

Balin- Yes, that’s the fact... Jack! http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/smile.gif

Ohmit 12115 Paine St. Poway, CA. 92064

carl schaller- I am very sorry! I did talk to the service guys and they said they would send them out. This is my fault... E-mail me @ mayberry@hitecrcd.com and I will take care of you and then some.

Mike, sorry to have to contradict you but it IS possible to use a 5 channel receiver for setting up flaperons/spoilerons. For example it is documented in the Flash 5X user manual and I have personally done it with my Flash 5x and 555 receiver.

Any chance of implimenting a simple and common I/O such as USB into future transmitters?

Manufacturers such as SR Batteries could post sample config files on the internet for their aircraft that users could download, and then upload to their transmitters as a 'starting reference' to work from. Hitec could offer a simple GUI interface that allows users to easily manage their configurations from a PDA or notebook computer.

If I wanted to connect my tranmitter to another via training cord, I now have to copy all the settings over to the other transmitter. It would be nice if all I had to do was connect my notebook pc to the other persons transmitter, then save that config to my pc and upload it to my transmitter, which would make certain all settings are identical between the two.

Perhaps Hitec could put together a common archetecture (HSA - Hitec Systems archetecture) that all future transmitters are built upon that allows users to easily migrate from one product to the next via common configuration and management. Just food for thought and nothing more....

Just kidding!!! http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/smile.gif If you look at the original post you'll see he asked if it will work with the Eclipse not the Flash. Mike, does Hitec have any plans for a small dual conversion receiver? 4-5 channels, end facing plugs?

With small i mean <0.5 oz (<14 grams).

In the US you have FMA direct, but here in Europe there simple aren´t any small dual conversion receivers for the 35MHz frequency band.

Hi Mike, I've got two HS-55 servos that don't center well, one much worse than the other. No crashes, little use, but not under warrenty. They've been this way since new, but I didn't realize it was the servos at first. The plane was impossible to trim for steady state flight. It was my first undercambered airfoil and at 7.5 oz. I thought it was a matter of aerodynamics and wind gusts. However subsequent attempted use in a semi-symmetrical airfoiled 16 oz. ship showed the same problem. Bench testing then showed the centering problem. As I said , they're not under warrenty any longer but the problem has been there since new, just took me a while to recognize it. I'm now using HS-81s in the second plane and they are working fine, so I know it's not the Focus III transmitter. All this verbiage to ask if something can be done about it. I've got 2 Hitec radios, 2 extra 555s and multiple servos. All has functioned well except these HS-55s. Thanks, Dave Chewning Sr.

Mike I have a new Eclipse 7 and a plane with seperate aileron servos. I programmed the radio per instructions and it works using the flaps knob. The problem is that the knob is a little awkward to reach and there iis no detent for centering it. This means when flying and using it, I have to look down to see whaere it is positioned.
Question: how can I program it so the 3 way switch controls the flaps? Forward or back for up/down and middle for nuetral? That would be great!

Thanks

My Prism 7X works great but I noticed something strange.
One of my servos in my Zagi always made noise when it was on, not a chatter but more like it was binding, that humming you hear.

I thought I might have damaged the servo so I replaced it, same thing. Started doing some checking and it seems that any servo on any receiver glitches, or hums, on channel 2.

It's not enough to move the control surface but you can tell that something is not right. Is this something that can be fixed easily, and innexpensively? I know the radio is out of warranty.

Thanks.

Mike,
I have what I'm being told is a "swamping" problem with my 555 receiver. I'm getting intermittent throttle activity when I extend the transmitter antenna next the plane. It range checks fine with the antenna down. Plane flies rock solid with no glitches if I have someone hand launch for me ( standing 15-20 feet away ). I'm using a Futaba transmitter on channel #18. The problem does not occur if I switch to a Futaba R-127DF receiver ( which I would rather not use as it is both larger and heavier than the 555 ). I've heard something about using "ferrite beads".
Can you offer some input on this ? Thanks - Ed

qadsan- Sounds good to me! I'll suggest it when we develop a new system and see what our engineers have to say.

Erik Johansson- It's too early to say anything but the crystal ball say's chances are good!

carl schaller- Sorry about the confusion.

Larry Dudeck- Sorry to hear about the problem. The good new is our boys are getting caught up in service and the turn around time is down around 8 working days from the time we receive it until we ship it back out. Just put a note explaining the problem and we will repair or replace it at no charge.

davecee- Send them in and we'll repair or replace them at no charge. Our warranty is two years.

mikeb33- Set up the landing mode to drop the flaps and kick in elevator compensation.

JStory- The CG is fine out of the box and it should fly fine. Make sure you get the battery warm to make sure it's fully charged and don't try to climb too fast... let it build up speed and the wing will do the work and allow it to climb. You might want to consider adding the gearbox and spinning the APC 9x6 slowflyer prop to get a better climb rate... this is the most popular upgrade and it really pull the true potential out of the plane. For more info check out: http://www.funtecmodels.com/skyscooter/home.htm

mt_100- That's typically a servo issue, not the radio. Does it go away when you move the stick? If so, don't worry about it.

brianchristie- The Eclipse is trainer compatible with Hitec and Futaba but make sure the FG is compatible with the modern Futabas... if so then it should work but not with any of the mixing.

Ed Lyerly- I don't have any experience with the beads and swamping should only occur within a couple feet. You might want to get the transmitter checked out.

Hey guys... Hitecs new message board is now on-line@ http://www.hitecrcd.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

I am having trouble registering for Hitec Talk, not sure whats going on with that. Ed - I had the exact same problem. Its only w/my EDF, I get close and it starts glitching. I have a 6XA tx and a 555 rx on channel 18. Oh well, I got an 8UAFs on its way so we will see what the source of the problem is. Just a suggestion for Mike. I looked at the Eclipse 7 and was strongly considering buying it, but I think the lack of exchangeable data modules is a real problem and was the single cause of me not buying the radio. I'm not sure if I'm the only one with that opinion, but while I only have 3 models now, I can forsee having 8 or 9 models, especially with all of the cheap park flyers and foamies out there. Just a suggestion. Apart from that I found the Eclipse to be a much better value than the competing radios.

Mike,

It does go away when I move the stick but it happens on any servo hooked to channel 2, regardless of the Rx used. That's what led me to think the Tx was off on the channel.

Can you answer a question on the CG-330 charger?

Can a suitable size UNregulated DC power supply (power transformer, full-wave rectifier and filter capacitor), be used with the charger, or must it only be used with 'pure' DC sources, such as a battery or regulated DC power supply?

OK, I'm kind of new to the hobby, so I've got a few questions. I currently own a Hitec Focus IIIAM. I use it to fly a home made zagi and love it. I'm building a new model and am looking to buy a new radio with more channels (at least 5) and memory for several model setups. I had decided on the Flash 5X as it seems to do everything I wanted at a great price, but I've got a few questions.
First, is there any way to change the frequency of the transmitter so that I could have my 2 or 3 planes all on different channels? I fly with lots of other people and channel conflicts are common. Some of my buddies just swap out the crystal in their receivers, but I have recently come to the understanding that this is illegal in the US and on top of that, it cuts down on your range. Is this correct, and if so, what are my options? Why have a 5 model memory if they all have to be on the same channel?

I've looked at the Eclipse 7 with Spectra module and it seems to be the answer to my problem. Are there any other solutions besides this one (which is slightly more expensive than my wife would like)? I've been pleased with Hitec thus far, but are there any other options from Futaba or Airtronics that would have similar features at a similar price level?

I assume that the Eclipse would do everything that the Flash 5X does and more, is this right? If I get it without the Spectra module, can I purchase the module separatly at a later date and put it in myself?

Sorry for the long post with so many questions in it. I'd appreciate comments/suggestions/recommendations from anyone! (I accidentally posted this as a new topic, so I'm reposting it now as a message in this topic as I had originally intended)

Thanks,

Mike-

I have two Prizm 7x Tx's. I want to set them up as Tx and buddy box (I have the cable). The plane I'll be flying has DIF on the ailerons and flaps set up as spoilerons (a high performance glider) and what I need to know is does the student's Tx have to be programmed the same as the master Tx? Will the students Tx be able to operate the dial for the spoilerons or does that have to be set up similarly too? How about trims set up on the master Tx? Will they carry over?

Thanks,

I think the Spectra is really unique in its channel-changing ability. I dont know of another radio that can do what it does. I went with a Futaba 8UAFs because of the exchangeble memory chips (and the fact that no one in my club is on ch. 18) , but if you know that you wont need more than 7 models the Eclipse seems to be by far the best value. Also I think its illegal to use a spectra module in another manufacturer's radio, can you confirm that Mike? My recommendation would be Eclipse 7 for under 8 models, 8UAFs for more than 8 models.

Kolchak- It needs to be a pretty clean power source or it will cause the charger to false peak.

Spankster- No you cannot change channels in the Flash 5X it is against FCC regulations. Cutting your range is not as big of a concern as shooting someone out of the sky! The only choices for channel changing on the transmitter are the Eclipse or older Prism 7X with the Spectra module. Yes you can add the Spectra module later but it's always better to by it with the system, they sell for around $100 by themselves. You could probably find a used Prism but be aware it has only 3 model memory.

The Eclipse is your best choice so just let your wife know that you need it and I'm sure see will understand! http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/smile.gif

Ron,m

Yes, you have to set them up exactly the same way.

georgeg- V-tail is typically channels #2&4 is set up on the lest stick but if you want to use the right stick for the primary control they you should use CH#1 & 2 and set it up in elevon mode.

AndrewK- Yes the Spectra module is not FCC type accepted so is illegal to use with any other radios except Hitec. However may people are using it successful but not with ours, the FCC or AMA's consent. Speeding is also illegal but that doesn't stop people from doing it!

Don't for get Hitec message board is now on-line so please come over and register so you can ask questions there too. http://www.hitecrcd.com

Got a couple of questions for you Mike. I've electrified my Seniorita and the ESC is Castle's 35. My Prisim 7 operates it just fine but I've been only reading 9.3 volts ot the meter. I've taken the pack out and recycled several times. Went to the field and all I got was beebs. Put it on my field charger and changed radios to my old Master 7. No speed control. Fussing with the trim pots gave some control sometimes but not enough for flight. Looked at the field charger and it was blinking. Hey, I had 10.3 and I went flying. At home, the Prisim is still holding voltage AND the Master operates a regular servo as throtle BUT still will not play with the ESC. Any bright ideas, or do you want it (Master) for fine tunning? Thanks, Bob

I am getting into electric flight and have a modelairtech elipstick that uses eight 1000 mah NiMH cells (2/3A). First, where do I get the plugs that plug into the end of the charger? Can I get them from Radio Shack or other local vendors by chance? Also, I know that NiMH cells are more sensative than regular nicad's so I was planning on easing down on the charge rate to say around 1A. Do you have any other reccomendations on charging NiMH cells on the CG-335. thanks.

Bob- It sounds like the meter needs to be recalibrated. If you send that in we will do it at no charge.
