I recently upgraged to a new computer w/ win XP, and also installed the latest version of FMS. It runs great on my computer with the keyboard controller, but I can not get it to properly recognize my futaba T6xa. I purchased a tx cable online, I downloaded the ppjoy program and installed that. When I set up the joystick controller, I use the LPT1 setting and designate the controller as the ppm tx joystick. When I open up the FMS program and calibrate the joystick, I get very inconsitant readings on the meters and the plane is uncontrollable. I've tried all the different set-ups with the joystick and nothing seems to be working. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

mpbjr,
If I recall correctly, the parallel port version of transmitter cable does not work with WinXP as the device is not available to the OS.
You'll need the sound card, game port or the USB interface to work with WinXP.
I use Win2K with a USB interface for my Hitec Flash4x.
The folks at Mile High Wings (http://www.milehighwings.com/usb_cables.htm) have the cable you need.

ggunners,
Sorry, I bumped by enter button before I could type my response! Thanks for the info on the USB cable, I checked out the web site you suggested and I think $50 plus shipping is a little steep,( and I'm pretty cheep!). I’ll look around and price them, but I probably will end up with the site you recommenced. Thanks again!

mpbjr,
No problem. You may want to check out this post (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=203737) as it indicates a change in the control panel may help. Beware the printer problem though.

Lots of people have had success with ppjoy and parallel port interfaces, you don't really need a USB interface.
You might be better asking on the FMS forums at http://cgi.ethz.ch/~mmoeller/cgi-bin/ikonboard3/ikonboard.cgi There have been several recent threads in Parallelport and Other Interface forums with solutions to these problems.

Why don't you use a serial interface? It connects to the serial port of the PC and is compatible with Windoze 2000, ME, XP, and 95 - unlike interfaces that use the parallel port. And its cheap - in the order of $25.

Careful ! There are many of the original serial port designs about which don't work with Win XP/2K any more than the parallel port interfaces do.
Only the newer PIC serial interfaces work. If you're buying one make sure it states specifically that it works with XP.

Yep, sorry, I should have said - I do indeed mean the PIC Serial Interface.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and tips, I really do appreciate it. I'm trying to learn rc helicopters and I wanted to get some sim time before trying the real thing. I'll keep you posted on my status with the sim. Thanks again!!:)
