Why is it that the Radio shack R/C cars and trucks get such a bad rap?

I have a bunch of them around here, and other then some early (80's)
models having weak front ends, they all seem fine. and There Really cheap on
e-bay.

So why does everyone give them such a hard time?

I've been looking for some info on a older 4wd truck that has a range
problem. I've Rechecked all the boards conections and joints, and it all
looks fine, but range is about 20 feet on this one truck and all the others
ate over 100 feet.

any ideas?
is there a way to boost range? or is it likly to be a bad resistor?

thanks.

Mainly because they aren't race capable, and if a part breaks you can't
replace the part.

It's comparing apples to oranges.

They're cheap and cheerful, can't be fixed, can't be raced meaningfully, and
are just plain crap.

They're toys, for small boys ..

All true, but they would be a lotta fun to bash around the house if they had:
PROPORTIONAL steering and throttle control.
PARTS that could be replaced/repaired.
RANGE long enough to actually drive around.
HOP-UPS to make 'em faster or more durable.

Just being able to change tyres would be better .. provided there were also
reasonable tyres to swap to .. ;)

Radio Shack is learing . . . Take the X-Mods for example. It's a tuner RC
car that can lead to people discovering the rest of the RC world!

Now that reminds me of one reason why I didn't take any R/Cs out last
year...
