I recently bought two Astro Marine .40s and plan to install them in a hull I'm converting from nitro to electric. The hull has a single flex shaft that exits through the hull at the centerline. Does anyone have info on where I can get a gearbox that will couple these two motors into a single output shaft?

Graupner makes a gear box that may fit
I believe it was the HYDROSPEED 606 twin-motor electric power
system. It was designed for the Systems offshore racing catamaran.
Here we go

This page shows two models one a solid shaft drive, and the other a flex shaft drive. I am really not sure if either are still available.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to check the dimater of the Astro .40s when I get them this week.
What's the usual way to connect two motors geared into one shaft? Wire the motors in parallel and run them off a single speed control? Run each motor from it's own speed control with the 2 speed controls connect to a Y harness from the receiver?
I guess I need to be concerned about the rpm of each motor so that they don't fight against each other when connected to a coupling gear??

This one is listed at:

about 2/3 the way down the page, for full description
you can either run the motors in series or parallel. There aren't the same problems in running brushed motors off one esc as there are with brushless. Series connection implies 2 x the number of batteries.

I've been looking around and have seen this gearbox...
Trouble is I can't find a website for Ed Hughey or Hill's RC. Anyone have a link that works???
The other gearboxes I've found are for airplanes, (this is a 23501 TWINTURBO for 2X480 Graupner or Cobalt motors)
... and I wondering if they might be made to work in this application??

Check Dumas for gear solutions. You can make your own gear drive.
If you have an ESC that wil handle the voltage running the motors in series is best. But all the car/boat ESCs I know of have a 6 cell limitation. In this case you can runn the motors in parrellel off one ESC unles they consume more current than the ESC is rated for. If that is the case you need two ESCs.
