You know we all worked out that it was impossible to do anything interesting with power down the lines ? Have a look at this thread over on Flightlines/RCWatch http://www.flightlines.com/forum/Forum6/HTML/000885.html.

Some people just don't understand what impossible means :)

O.K. so far only a loop and eight and on 20ft lines but he's getting there.

I thought you guys were doing it!

A story for you - well two actually:

In 1973 I was an air cadet who started in an attempt to introduce electric RTP to the Squadron with what appeared to be little success, but the seed was sown as I left to join the Air Force; when I visited early in 1974 I found the pole had been scrapped, but all the wire that I had assembled, as well as the 12v batteries (normal RTP stuff) was being used, but it was being used with someone in the middle holding a CL handle with the two lines connected to a bellcrank operating the elevator. although I didn't see one, I was told that they had completed a loop.

Last year I was involved in an enrichment weekend at school, I flew a couple of models outside, and a friend brought his RTP stuff for inside. I had cleared a small part of the gym - not big enough said he, and when I enquired what space he wanted, he said that he could run it on the long lines if we cleared the WHOLE of the basket ball court sized gym. The pole had to be positioned right in the middle for the models to clear the sides, and he was using the top of the range RTP gear from Ballard's. How did it go? Well, he was using gearing or small props on DD, and when he put it up to 48v, most of the models were going with bags of performance, and that included a solid balsa 1/48 ish scale Lightning (the jet fighter, not the twin), and another model that started to go vertical on that power. When I asked about the high voltage, he said that the motors used to blow, but then he just used a smaller prop and everything was fine (and he's developed this by himself!)

So, put the two together and you have an indoor electric CL system - but the roof height might be a problem for loops!

We need a Brit with a good collection of Aeromodeller magazines!

I recall seeing a photo of a guy flying a CL model with power down the lines from a belt pack at the old "Model Engineer Exhibition". It was a couple of years before I left the UK - that makes it pre-'93 - at least, and I'm pretty sure it was before "Nexus" trashed what was Argus Specialist Publications.

At a guess, somewhere between 1987 and 1991. As I recall, he flew several times indoors, no reported problems, electrocution etc and 40V at the handle springs to mind.

All the same, given holding something with 40V across it, or an on-board auto low voltage shut off drivetrain, I really prefer (B)

Some time in the near future, GWS will bring out a beltpack powered ukie Litestik for around $50.00 and, as the saying goes, there goes the neighbourhood ...
