Its an oldie from southern sailplanes. The fuselage up against the table in the first shot in its little brother 'ricochet'.
Back in the late 80's these were the top winners in comps, and when i was a young'n may pocket money wouldn't even come close. So.........

Its a fairly easy build, just i've taken about 12months to do it.
There are some build shots on my www site.

Where's the taper? :D

Taper for the tips or the end of the wing?

There is a slight taper, can treally see it in the shots.
I was going to put winglets on it, but not sure now. From the research there is no real aerodynamic advantage.

The wing, just as it is, will be reasonably efficient and be less likely to stall out of tight thermal turns than a more highly tapered wing.

All my comments that are followed by a :D are sarcastic. As for winglets, a properly designed winglet can do quit a bit for induced drag reduction. Try this link, http://aero.stanford.edu/reports/nonplanarwings/CWingTheory.html as a way to judge the effect of adding a winglet....sorry it is mostly about the C-wing. Unfortunately a program like CMARC isn't available for free download, as it is a good method to measure the effectiveness of winglets.

Here she is, not sure what the model is called. She's a 2.5m Rudder/Elevator ship. Comes with Graupner Spoilers fitted.
Call Steve on 0412084799 if interested. She's in great condition.

Oh BTW i'm in Brisbane , Queensland , Australia.
She's going CHEAP...........

If its 2.5 m it would be the ricochet, looks nice. Whats the asking price. I have a friend who maybe interested.
on another point, which side of brissy are you on? I'm at mango hill on the north side.

So I caught up with Steve (Climaxpilot) yesterday, and somehow came home with the southern sailplanes 2.5m beast. Took some explaining when I got home (after all I was only going to "look") but all is good - I just have to be good for a while ;-)

Its in great condition, has a couple of cracks that need fixing, and me thinks it will make a great first crunchie for me. The other Steve (portfoxdesigns) thinks it is the long lost "Icarus" which won a few thermal comps in its day, so we think it should be bit of fun.

Those of you who saw my other thread will know I was looking for a Elevator, Aileron, RUdder, Spoiler ship - but this is only Elevaotr, Rudder Spoiler. I plan to get this flying, then once my skills are up a bit (the flying skills that is), I'll put some wing servos in her and some ailerons.

Stay tuned for the fixing/build thread - it'll be happening soon.

Thanks to Steve (Climaxpilot) for the nice plane and the good deal :-)

I have an old photo of the Icarus at home, i'm fairly sure that it is what Mafu has said. I'll scan it later at post it up.

I'm about 98% sure, but then again i have never seen the Sunbird that Southern Sailplanes produced back in the 80's. If any one has a picture of the Sunbird, please post so i can see if i'm right or wrong.
So my above post can be scraped, it isnt a ricochet.

The Icarus flew real nice, lighter than the rico, so it hung in thermals better, larger diheydral so its a littler harder to turn, but thats the reason for the larger rudder, i guess. Still my memories of the icarus days were good ones.
I think Matt wil get some real fun out of this one.

Lets hope the weekend is good, so we can fly her.

Made some winglets last night for eclipse, the pic below is them in the rough state.
I was going to leave them off, but see how i think the DG1000 has some real cool winglets, well.....i thought i have to.

I plan to have the front part fixed to the wing, the winglet itself will be held on with two small plastic screws, slightly countersunk to make it smooth. That way they can be removed in transport.
