Razor Savers to mount on the front of your Razor motor that has stripped threads. I have them in the same diameter as the Razor or in a diameter to just fit inside a GWS 300 gearbox(thanks to a suggestion from Rob Butler). Both versions come with 3 M2 flathead screws to mount the Razor Saver to the RZ and also 2 M2.5 pan head mounting screws. The price is $7.00 for either version shipped via first class mail. Paypal preferred to--Jblk9695@verizonmail.com
or email for my address if you want to send a postal money order.
I also have end bells if you prefer to replace the stock one for $10.00. These have a thicker end flange and come with longer M2.5 mounting screws for better thread engagement, less chance of stripping the hole.
Email or PM for photo's.

What screw hole is stripped? This plate attackes to the motor using the 3 gearbox holes on the endbell. You attach your gearbox to the 2 holes on the plate, so it doesn't matter if your gearbox holes are stripped on your endbell.

yep..i stripped one on the front while putting it into yet another new gws gearbox, because i killed the other...
i put a screw in it thta is just a little bigger..i think it is standard and not metric..so i fi had your deal, i could just pooky it in with thread locker, and then when i transfer, i would be messing with the screws on the endbell adapter thingy..right?

Holy cow, how many Razors do you have in the plane in your avatar?:D :D
Correct, you just attach the Razor Saver to the front of your Razor with 3 flathead screws, see the photo at the beginning of this thread.

it is only 28% Edge 540..will be powered by a little ole Brison 3.2..and only about 16# (hopefully) if i can ever get it put together!

Jerry,
Just got your parts in the mail - one end bell and two Razor Savers for the GWS gearbox...
Maybe someone has suggested it already, but what about a new end bell with a large outer flange to fit the GWS gear box? Kill two birds with one stone?
By the way... what is a SAFE way to press the old stock end bell out?
Thanks for a nice product, I'd highly recommend them!

Here is some info on making alum end bells. You need a ferrous ring in them.

Jan 27, 2004, 11:14 AM
CJS-Soak just the end of the motor in lacquer thinner to loosen the bond and then rotate the end bell by using needle nose pliers in the vent holes, don't push them in to far or you can damage the windings, once the end bell rotates then you can pull it out. If you try and press the end bell out with the shaft you take a chance of doing damage to the bearings. Make sure to just soak the end in the thinner or you might remove some of the coating on the windings, also when re-assembling make sure to oil the bearing. You can use some CyA or Loctite to bond the new end bell in place.
I can do the end bell with the bigger flange if you would like, just let me know.

Earthbound, excellent. So what is required is a plate like the Razor Saver but to fit over the hub and match the 3 mounting holes and also have the mounting holes for the GWS gearbox, etc. Are there any cooling (vent) holes in the endbell of these motors? And if so what is the diameter (bolt circle) they are on? Thanks for the info.
Jerry
Earthbound
Feb 06, 2004, 02:04 PM
There are no cooling holes in the front (or anywhere for that matter). Needs three holes for the 2mm screws and a large hole to clear the hub.
Also, it needs to fit the EPS400C gearbox frame, not the EPS300C. That is because the motor shaft is 3mm. There is not enough meat in the 300C pinions to drill out to 3mm. Need to use the 400C pinions (2.3mm) which are larger and can be drilled/reamed to 3mm. Do you know the EPS400C mounting dimensions? If not, I can find them. They are probably on the GWS website, and seems like I remember seeing them on the back of the EPS400C blister packaging as well.

I am ready to order either the endbell or the saver.
Has anyone done the endbell replacement? I need to know how it went and if there were any problems. Hate to be the first.
I would go with the saver but since this will go on a 350 for a Piccolo I would like to avoid the extra weight of the saver mounted onto the stock end bell.
What is the weight of the endbell versus the saver with it's three mounting screws?
Thanks
Luis~
Jblk9695
Feb 07, 2004, 02:15 AM
Luis, I'll weigh the Saver and endbell tomorrow and post it here, I don't think there is very much difference.
Jerry
Jblk9695
Feb 07, 2004, 02:02 PM
Weight of Razor Savers---
RS(same diameter as Razor)=1/16 oz, 1.78 grams
RS300(GWS gearbox)=.075 oz, 2.13 grams
Endbell(with thicker flange)=1/8 oz, 3.54 grams
I would think that an RS on the stock endbell would be about the same weight as the endbell I make with the thicker flange, maybe a little more but only by fractions of a gram.
Jerry
dulcelife
Feb 07, 2004, 07:26 PM
Thanks for the information. The weight is insignificant in light of the razor's power improvement over stock engines.

hey this looks like what I need, but im not sure, this is what happened, I bought the Razor 2500A (old version where the gearbox is epoxied on) and I crashed it and broke the gearbox off and I ended up losing one of the tiny gears I was going to send it in for repairs but havent got around to it, so will this fit on my motor? i'd like to use it on a gws gearbox or some other gearbox, anyways the face of the motor (black anodized aluminim i think) was machined so that the gearbox could be epoxied on so now the screws barely hold into the motor, will this motor saver work for me? also i think the prop shaft is shorter than a regular razor 2500 from looking at the pics so I dont know if mounting the saver would reduce the prop shaft even further wished i had a camera to take a picture of this so you guys could see.
Jblk9695
Feb 13, 2004, 05:07 PM
lagcisco, I havn't seen a 2500A up close and personnel so not sure. The Razor Saver is 1/8" of an inch thick so the shaft length will be reduced. If the 2500A has the 3 small threaded holes then you can attach the Razor Saver to the endbell. Take some measurements and see if you will have enough shaft length to mount the pinion. If you decide to get a Razor Saver, please let me know which style, RS to fit the diameter of the Razor motor or RS300 to fit the GWS gearbox. Hope this helped.

the shaft is really short,i'd say maybe like 1/2inch.. its tiny, ill measure it later tonight, and as far as the 3 holes, well since they were machined out the screws dont hold onto the thread, so theres no way to mount the saver i guess, razormotors doesnt even have phone number on the site, theres an address on there but i dont want to send it in and not get it back, i'd still like to use the motor for something, oh well

Jblk9695
Feb 13, 2004, 06:53 PM
Lagcisco-Soak just the end of the motor in lacquer thinner to loosen the bond and then rotate the end bell by using needle nose pliers in the vent holes, don't push them in to far or you can damage the windings, once the end bell rotates then you can pull it out. Jblk9695

thor, The Razor Savers are if you strip the mounting holes in your Razor motor, you attach the Razor Saver with 3 flatheads into the M2 threaded holes on the endbell and you have 2 new M2.5 mounting holes. I have a Razor Saver that fits inside the GWS300-350 gearbox which eliminates the slop. Go to the start of this thread for photo's.
