What is least noise, most quiet, .15 and muffler combo? "Can't we all just get along?" No kidding. Short of electric I'm trying to apease the neighbors.

Any of the modern OS .15's are plenty quiet. I'm not sure about their latest hotsy-totsy super whiz bang converted car engine .15 CVA though. It screams!

Another thought is to add a second stage after muffler. There was an article in one of the model mags years ago about this. It cuts down the RPM a bit more but makes the engines super quiet. If you're just sport flying the slight additional loss is a small price to pay for keeping the peace. Connect the second chamber to the stock muffler using a length of silicone header tubing and mount the second stage to the sides of the fuselage much like a tuned pipe.

Check out this site; I think this resembles what BMatthews is describing:

I bought one of these mufflers for .061, but haven't tried it out yet. Just need to figure out a nice way of hiding the big, draggy muffler while still cooling it adequately.

Heinrich,

Whatever you do, don't get a Norvel .15 if you want quiet. The Norvel engine is probably the most powerful to weight engine but it's .15 muffler is a clip on affair that is no more than an exhaust collector. LOUD. I had to adapt an 0S muffler to make it acceptable.

If you can find an HB .21 4-stroke you'll have just about the quietest engine there is. It is often mistaken for an electric when it is in the air.

AND watch your props! There is a difference in sound levels between props of the same size, and sometimes the prop will make the difference between quiet enough or not.

Compromise between HB and OS is diesel, quieter by definition; I have a PAW with no muffler that is quieter than a Cox with a muffler, with the same (or better) performance. My PAW 2.5 with collector is plenty quiet as well.
