A motion before the IMAA to be discussed at the Jan 17th Board Meeting in
Orlando.

12) Motion by Tom Hammer second by Don Pemberton
Motion is made to: Petition the AMA to refrain from sanctioning Big Bird
events. Petition the AMA from using the IMAA rules in sanctioning events
that should be the sole property of the IMAA.

Reason: Increase the desirability of the IMAA as a sanctioning body. The
IMAA was founded because of a need for someone to develop and foster Big RC
Aircraft when no other sanction body wanted to do the job. Now that the IMAA
has successfully developed the Big Bird concept into the biggest special
interest group. The AMA without regard for the IMAA, sanctions IMAA clone
events removing the basic reason for the existence for the IMAA. Note that
the AMA doesn't do this to other SIG's such as the IMAC.

A complete list of the motions and discussions for this meeting may be seen
at the IMAA website.

SOunds like someone's getting too big for their flying boots ...

What comes next? Day membership of the IMAA to let outsiders into big bird meets? IMAA to allow AMA members to join. IMAA to allow members to run non-big bird meetings under IMAA sanctions?

BTW - since when did it become "Big Bird" ? I seem to recall from school days that capitalisation was for the first word in a sentence, peoples' names and Deity - which category does IMAA think larger sized model aircraft come under?

OTOH - would IMAA care to share secrets of success with the burgeoning e-flight movement, especially as the majority of e-fliers don't care about competition?

"sole property of the IMAA."

What does THAT mean?

Is this the same Hammer of the Hammer Field/Aviation Cadet Museum fracas?

PS the majority of "Big Bird" flyers are not into competition, either...

Clearly a case of sanction-envy!

You'd think that after IMAA's problems with in=fighting, they'd have learned something. Or, do you suppose they need an external enemy to close ranks against?
