Winner R/C, I believe, is the hobby shop that handles the distribution of this plane. It's actually known as the Pacific AeroModels Gee Bee Model Y.
Mine flew fine with a Saito 150 at about 13 pounds, and now it's flying fine with a D&B 3.7 gas twin! The Review is in an older issue of R/C REPORT Magazine
Some Sturdy Plane!

Thanks Dick...
I'm a avid follower of your column in R/C report.. If you say so, "it is so with me"... I, then, no doubt saw the article, but have kids craving all my old mags...And did not show any real interest in this model till now...Now I need one.. ;o) I have been a subscriber of the magazine since it was a newspaper... With out a lot of trouble, can you give me the year and month you did the review?? Thanks again...Brian Smith. Tullahoma, Tn.

I really wish I knew which issue it was in. I send them in and they get published 2 to 6 months later.
All I do know is that I was on the cover with the plane.
Call Connie at HQ, 1-888-RCREPORT, She can tell you.
Come to think of it, I'm on the cover with a lot of my planes....

I have a Saito 170 3 cylinder radial that works just fine on the plane. It's a little pricey, but the sound is cool.
And there's a lot to be said for Cool....

"SOUNDS" good...But I'm a Gasser guy....Wonder how an RCS 140 would work..?? Brian

I had mentioned I had used a Saito 150 in my Gee Beee shown above . In all fairness, I admit I had made a mistake. That plane used a Zenoah G-23 engine, which satisfies your comment about being a "gas-guy". It did fly quite well though at 14 pounds.
The RCS140 is also a good choice, but it is a "long" engine and may require some modifications to the firewall. The cowl is large, but not all that deep.

You made a mistake.??? I'm not sure I believe that.. (grin)
I have had a couple G23s now G26s...I can live with that...Wonder about a Brison 2.4..?? They are not too heavy nor too deep in length..Had one of them that was a great motor...Thanks so much for coming on here and sharing your knowledge....Brian Smith

It was the March 2003 issue I just grabed my stack of R/C Report and quickly fliped through them and have it in front of me.
I've been reading yous and the rest of R/C Report for about 3-4 years now just renewed for another year.

With the # of planes that Dick builds I can see that it would be easy to get 2 of the same mixed up. the Satio 150 was in the Great Planes Gee Bee ARF

I'm putting this model together now..Almost done with it..It is very nice.. I ordered a new Brison 2.4 for it..Weighs very little more than the recomended G26...Ought to rock....Then there is always 1/2 throttle...Thanks..Brian

Very nice modell.
I have an engine OS FT 1.60 (Gemini).
Would it be strong enough for this modell?
It weight 2.42 pounds and gives thrust of 14 pounds at 8.000 rpm with MenzS 18x6.

this plane are very good for GAS GUY. but I think the G26 are not power enough for this plane , I have been try to put G26 and SPE40Z both , and I think the SPE40Z are much more power than G26 , but same weight as G26 , you can see it fly with SPE40Z.

Hello,
I was looking for GBY in Europe and I've got this answer from http://www.modellbau-klimm.de/:
Hello,
the red / white never comes again, in two month comes the new model,
the same like this but with 2500mm wing span in all three colors,
we are the first in germany which get this model,
sorry for the bad english,
Anyone has information about this this "bigger" GBY?

This looks exactly like the Pacific Aeromodel version that was available here in the states 2 years ago. Same size, same engine, identical.
Even the photos in their ad are exactly the same.
Probably the European importers got another batch from the Orient and said it was "brand new".
Old news. Sorry

Pettit: "Old news. Sorry"
I am not so sure. I haven't found any information about Pacific Aeromodels GBY with 2500mm (98") wingspan. Do You have any? If the model is two years old there should be same.
Milos
The 96" Pacific GB Y will be here in a couple of months. It's designed for big block (heavy) 38 to 62cc gas motors. News added at 6th april, 2005. Source: www.rcuniverse.com

Thank's for all information I've got on this forum regarding GBY.
I've bought the plane, built It and flown It. Every phase was a pleasant experience. My GBY is powered by O.S. FT 1.60 Gemini. It swings MenzS 18x6 with 8.000 RPM and gives 6.5 kg of static thrust (14.3 lb). The weight of the model without fuel is 5.8 kg (12.8 lb). The ship flies in a very scale manner (ca 50mph). It needs half throttle for normal flight.
I had to add some epoxy glue on critical points (engine mount, undercarriage,..). I like the telescopic undercarriage (a little too hard) and wheel pant on tail-wheel.
Best regards from sunny Slovenia

So what is the wingspan of your GBY, Milos? I just talked to Pacific Aeromedel at Toledo and was told they would be getting more of the 82" planes in May or June. They said there would be both color choices available (red/white & black/yellow).
Now I wish I hadn't sold my FT160.
