View Full Version : Rod Size in a Raptor 50V2?

I suffered a boom strike this weekend and bent the crap out of my tail
control rod. Nobody in the States seems to stock the Thunder Tiger
replacement for the 50V2 (PV0392), so I was wondering if anyone knows what
the rod size is for those rods?

I thought they were 2-56, but after finding some 40 year old calipers in the
garage, it appears the TT rods are slighter larger (maybe 0.1mm - 0.2mm
bigger?).

I went ahead and set it up with 2-56 rods on some other ball links I've got,
but there's too much flex in the 2-56 rod (I'm guessing the TT rod is
stiffened somehow during manufacturing since it's not much bigger than the
2-56 rod). Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Jim

I can answer my own question now. According to the guys at Heliproz, the
rods are 2.3mm (or just a tad smaller than a 3/32" rod). Still nobody seems
to stock Thunder Tiger tail rods, and my LHS didn't have just loose 3/32"
rods. But as I was leaving the shop I saw some long JR pushrods, and
magically they're 2.3mm and a perfect fit. Turns out they're tail pushrods
for the JR Venture CP and are 34.5" long (I only needed 23").

So if you're looking for Raptor pushrods, JR part number JRP983078 are the
right diameter to go through the tail rod guides(although you'll probably
have to cut them to length). And strangely enough, Heliproz carries them.

Have you not considered a carbon pushrod setup Joe? Most heli's are catered
for in the after market market, so you shouldn't have too much trouble
getting (or even making) one.

They're light and they're rigid, which is all you want.

Beav,

Thanks for the input. Having only been flying 3 months, I'm still
exploring the aftermarket world and trying to figure out the possible
upgrades. I think it's just something I'll learn with time, but so far it's
pretty slow going.

It's not the best time of the year for fast going though Jim, so don't get
"down". Come the summer and you'll be learning faster than you want,
specially about the cost of repairs :-))
