This is a Russina Akula. The fastest sub Ive owned. Routinely got attacted by bass going after the big brass pop. Ive posted pics of a GAR chasing it. Its fast but the Gar won.

VIIC U-boat. 83 inches long. Dual water tight containers, dual recievers, holding the electronics. Powered by twin 12 volt motors. Front and rear planes operate in unison with the aid of auto leveling pitch controllers. Later model U-boat which has a snorkel that can be raised and lowered via a servo. Sound board plays various Das Boot sounds including the "ALARM" when dive stick is pushed forward. Lights and had operational gas powered torpedoes but took them off later.

Periscope depth. Boat has a ballast tank which allows water to be added to it to allow the sub to sink down to whatever depth I need. A saftey feature "Sub safe" can detect if the radio signal is lost which blows the tank by releasing air into it. The sub will then rise to the surface.

Pic of the U-Boat conning tower manned by its crew. I like the Nuke Boats but I think a sub should have losts of guns and sharp stuff sticking out.

What are you using as a sound board?
I am ( wish to be ) working on a 1/72 FNS Surcouf, would very much like to be able to carry sound. My surface ships use an MP# player with computer speakers, which require a lot of space.

Here are a few pics of a sub I tried, it's based around an airtight beaker and submersible motor units that carry a single AA battery. It was semi-successfull, I had a few runs at the local pond but being so short it was very twitchy in pitch.

As my third subs it's been the first to actaully see water, number four will need boyancy control...

JIMJAM did you build the VIIC U-boat from scratch or buy it from a hobby shop already built with the servos in it already?

This particular U-boat was from a now out of buisness company called 32nd parallel. All you got was a smooth 83 inch fiberglass hull and some assorted parts. Everything else must be fabricated yourself. You basically had to cut the hull as you wanted and separate the bottom from top. Most also hand cut over 400 deck slots. This sub has a brass deck which eliminated that. On the average a good builder with the proper tool takes betreen 6 months and a year to build one. I haveld one 32nd P U-boat,finished another and this one I bought completed that only needed the electronics installed, paint and msc work. One thing about subs is that you are never finished. You are always tinkering, repairing and making it better. Only for the really hardcore hobbyist.

I've got my 1:32 Nautilus, which I've finally got running like a dream now. On the bench are a 1:96 Russian Typhoon, a 1:72 scale Disney Nautilus and a 1:48 scale Japanese "B" class.

Care to give some details about your sub, Ghost (scale, ballast system, etc.)?

well as she's second hand, there isnt much to say.

as far as I'm aware, she's a Dumas Bluefish, 1/96th scale and a dynamic diver, not static.

Measuring 33" long, she has single screw propulsion, not twin, however I am looking at the feasibility of going twin shaft on her though that would mean a new aft bulkhead, so not something I will do straight off.

her equipment at the moment is a single speed200 sized motor, and I have yet to put her in the pool, however on friday, her radio gear will be ordered. most likely a Futaba set up with 2x s3003 servos.
