I just bought the GY401 and the instructions that come with it say to go to
the GYRO setting in the advanced menu of the 8uhp. My 8uhp does not have a
GYRO setting (that I can find). Is there an alternative menu selection
where I can set up this gyro for my radio? I searched the web for a site
that might explain this but as yet have not found one.

Hmm, I used an FF8 Super and there are two menus. Press the top two tabs
for basic and the bottom two for advanced. In the advanced there IS a gyro
page.

Sorry if I have got the wrong end of the stick.

I don't have 8uhp but 9ZHP. Since it's an original, older radio, it doesn't
have gyro function but it doesn't matter. If I remember this correctly one wire
goes to rudder channel (usually 4) and here changing ATV will not change servo
travel but rate of turn so I leave that at100%. The other wire goes to Aux or
gyro channel (usually 5) and here flipping the switch of this channel will
switch the gyro between heading hold and normal and adjusting ATV on this
channel will adjust sensitivity of gyro (one side will adjust sensitivity of
heading hold the other sensitivity of normal mode).

BTW ATV function adjust end points of servo travel. On your radio it could be
called differently. The fact that my radio doesn't have dedicated gyro function
really makes no difference to me.

David,

I do not have the "Super" version of the 8UHP, which I believe is why I can
not find the GYRO function.

Peter,

I'm not really sure how to do that. Still trying.

Thanks

Yep ... what he said.

Link to GY401 manual http://www.futabarc.com/manuals/futm0807-manual.pdf
Link to 8UHPS/FS manual http://www.futabarc.com/manuals/8uhps-manual.pdf

The S-less transmitters use the ATV functions in the BASIC menu because there
is no GYRO function in the S-Less TXs.

Look at the GY401 instructions at the bottom of page 2 where it says "Transmitter with ATV functions
(T9Z, FF8, FF7S, FF6S, etc). <--- see ... S-less (8UHx is US market version of FF8)

The Futaba website does not offer a PDF file to the S-less radios (that I can find). The Futaba
website says to use the 8UHxS manual file for the s-less 8U. Unfortunately, the 8UxS PDF manual
doesn't explain how to set the gain using ATV.

Fortunatley, the 8UHxS manual does tell you how to get to the ATV menu.
It should be in the Basic Menu. While in the Basic menu, keep hitting the MODE
up or down buttons until you get to ATV (between the D/R and REVOLU functions).
Then select channel 5 by using the cursor (left/right buttons) until the little pointer is
at channel 5 (ATV-GY)

Note says the blinking data is the one you are setting. UP = AVCS / Down = Normal.
Use the +/- buttons to make the settings. Use the gear switch to change which setting
you want to set.
The ATV limits (in the 8UHxS manual) are from 30-140 which is good because the GY401
instructions say not to set the ATV settings less than 10.
Now got to the GY401 instructions and set the ATVs/Gain for each setting (AVCS and Normal).

Remember, the only control over the two GYRO modes is with the GEAR switch. The
GYRO mode (or gain setting) does not change when flight modes
(Normal, Idle Up1, Throttle Hold) change.

Hope this helps a little,
Tippy
