I had a lot of problems with G2 initially. IIRC, there is a thread on
RunRyder (www.runryder.com) or possibly on one of the G2 forums (on the G2
website) which leads you through a process to get running. Follow that and
you will be OK. I've had no problems since. You WILL need to download all
the updates though.
(BTW I run XP Home)

Open the G2 control panel and do an online update. You'll have to
register it first. Once the update installs it should run fine

RFD comes with it's own "Control Panel" which links you directly to Knife
Edge's website where they have all the latest upgrades/downloads. I'd
suggest you use their on-line upgrade path and also make sure your video
drivers are the latest for your card.
Video driver seem to cause more problems than they solve, and RFD's not
immune.
