View Full Version : RealFlight G2 Airplane Download Dissappointment

Any help, guidance, advice would be most appreciated as I am currently a bit vexed at my very expensive simulator.

Went to download several airplanes last night from www.realflight.com only to discover, for example, that my Corona electric helicopter was merely a duplicate Watt Not and that my Bucker Jungmeister looked strikingly similar to the Ultimate Biplane, in spite of the fact that the download page indicated otherwise (e.g., that I would actually be getting a Corona and a Bucker Jungmeister). What is interesting is that the airports I downloaded turned out fine. Am I doing something wrong?

Nope... You are doing everything correctly..

Sorry to be the one to inform you that those "models" you downloaded from realflight.com are simply parameter files based on the models that you already have in your copy of Real Flight G2. This simply tries to make the existing model fly like the "new" model you downloaded. e.g. the Corona you downloaded uses the Watt-Not model as a base and tries to change the parameters of the Watt-Not to fly like the Corona. In order to get new models, e.g. Raptor, you will need to actually spend money to buy the Add-On disks.

This is one of the reasons I sold my RealFlight G2 when I bought Reflex (http://www.reflex-sim.com), where you can actually download FREE models or create your own model with the tool that they have. :D

BTW, Reflex actually has a Corona, and it flies pretty close to the real thing as compared with the Corona/Watt-Not in RealFlight G2.. Here's what it looks like:

You can download a lot of different "trims" to give the plane models different paint jobs.

Thanks guys!! I think I'll look into Reflex, too.

I am dissapointed with the models i got with G2 as well, i have got a raptor 50 heli and a GWS mustang parkflier, neither of which are available in G2 and i'm certainly not going to spend any more money on it buying add on disks just to get the models i thought i was going to get in the first place, the whole package was expensive enough when i bought it that i thought i would have the ultimate training package, it just turns out to be the ultimate scam really now they are trying to make me pay for the models i want,

I will see if the shop will take realflight G2 back and swap it for the reflex simulator if that one has proper add on free planes

You didn't look at G2 before you bought it to see what models were in it? It's not a scam, no where does it say you can create your own models for it and the models included are listed. Sounds like you didn't read the G2 package or visit the website before you bought it.

One thing that I especially don't like about G2 is that the add-ons often contain airplanes that came with the original simulator. Which begs the question, why should I have to pay for what I already have just to get a few more planes when I already purchased an expensive sim? Also, G2's selection of electrics is sparse at best and they are generally of poor quality(Although the SpaceWalker and the Electroflight are good). If RealFlight were smart, they'd launch an add-on disc solely for us electric flyers with a dozen or so GWS planes, some 3D machines, maybe a Lazy Bee, some offerings from Mountain Models, etc. (and with some popular electric helicopters like the Corona also thrown into the mix). Also, many of the add-ons are rather gimmicky. For example, how many of us are ever going to fly a V-22 Osprey or Harrier on Mars?!!! I think that they have rested on their laurels by being the best game in town for too long with out much competition. I just hope that somebody good for us electric flyers steps up to the plate soon (even though Backyard Flyer is a tremendous value for the buck, its flight physics are a little too forgiving to be a really good training vehicle). Living in Minnesota, I may be accused a bit of a wimp, but its a bit cold and dark now to fly. It would be really great if I could continue flying and learning to fly what I like to fly at home in front of my PC. What say the rest of you?!!!

I agree since G2 is the only major commercial sim to not allow you to build models or download free models they should have an add disk for just helicopters, electrics, large gas 3D, etc. I'm still happy with it though. I live in Phoenix where it's mid 70s now and still spend too much time playing G2 instead of my real planes ;)

Hi Bill,
Mid-70s. Owwww, that really hurts!!!! Love Minnesota, but right now I'm a bit envious of you.

For additional models for Reflex (http://www.reflex-sim.com), go to http://www.rcsim.de/dl_engine_eng/index.php?subcat=1

There is even a Raptor 50 available for download.. ;)

Reflex will also be releasing a new version in the next two months and it looks absolutely fantastic. Go to http://www.rcsim.de/sreenshots_xtr.htm for a preview.

Here's an example of the new version:

Bill, when i bought it, i was told inthe shop that i would be able to download loads of free models from the internet as i was told there were lots of people designing them for G2,

This was only a partial truth as the model might look different on the screen but my Hornet i downloaded doesnt fly anything like the actual model,

Greg, that latest version of reflex looks awesome!, i hope they have got the physics right for the new one, i will wait till i can try out a demo version in my local model shop before spending the cash though

The new Reflex looks great. I'm considering getting AFP but I think I'll wait and decide once the new Reflex is out.

On G2 though I picked up add ons #1 used for $15 and I'm not too thrilled with it. Don't really care for the planes much other than the Extra. The new fields are OK I guess (I like the stadium but Mars?) but I still fly on user created ones most of the time.

I believe Wolfgang (wsn) is offering a "Pay as you want" upgrade to XTR from version 4.02. i.e. Order from his website (http://www.reflex-sim.de) and he will send out XTR to you for free, you then decide how much, if any, you want to pay him for the upgrade. :D

I believe that XTR will be more expensive if you buy it when it is released. Also, since XTR now takes up 650MB, it will no longer be available for download.
