The kit is not that great, it was missing some wood and instructions are poor at best. I would not by his other kits.I will post the finished plane when done.

Other than that big black hump, it looks good. I think I would do away with the hump and make it flat, then use a clear canopy.
In a way it looks like the Littlest Stick turned upside down.

I evilbayed one of his LiL-Bug kits. He does say they are short kits and for 16.00 Im not really expecting a stellar kit.
Ill let yas know what it looks like when it gets here.

Hey guys, just received My push rods and servos and other goodies. I'm ready to glue the wings halves together. Should I use CA glue or epoxy. 26 years ago is the last time I built a plane an there was no CA glue. My other two planes were ARF's.What can and can't you use CA glue for????Is epoxy better for somethings????

Bud Morrison

Join them with epoxy I usually use 30 minutes for wing halves.
Dont go nuts with it tho epoxy is heavy.

Hey gang, I have another question. Remember its bin awhile, is this ok for the aileron hook up??? The instruction that came with the plane don't cover it.

The hole that the control linkage goes in on your control horns should be in line with the center of the hinge point, otherwise it looks fine.

My question is what is their definition of a short kit ? I bought a short kit years ago which provided ribs, fuselage formers and the tail feathers, much to short for me. From the photos it looks pretty complete. The Lil Wasp looks like it might make a nifty little plane. I look forward to your opinion of the finished product.

This kit was a short kit like you bought and it was missing some wood to. I improvised and the seller gave me $4 back in my pay pal account. The instructions are also very vague. It does have full size plains.I will let you know how it turns out.I will have more pic's soon.

I opened up my 1/2a LIL-bug kit today. The full size plans are nicely drawn. There is a printed manual for the experienced builder. The Stangel Technologies kits are like the lanier kits they include no harware. They leave hardware up to the builder. The ribs were all precut very nice. The balsa was of a very nice grade and all wood was supplied to build the entire plane. I hopefully will get around to building it twards spring. Right now I have some other projects going. All and all I am very happy with the quality of the contents of the kit.

Thats great Bud , I must have just got a bum kit. I was missing some wood and my ailerons were bowed and warped. But I'm working around the problems.

I redesigned the wing mounts. they were suppose to be four blocks cut into the leading and trailing edges. Then bolted to the fuselage.

bigbear3721
Jan 12, 2004, 07:32 PM
Instead I cut two pieces of 1/8 ply wood into the leading and trailing edges. Seems to be Strong enough and looks better.

The plains show the engine mounted inverted.would it matter if I mounted it up right. This would move the center line of the prop shaft down. See next pic.

Engine is mounted, I had to modify the cowling. It was just made of balsa and would have broke very easily so I covered it with 1/16 ply. Much better.

hi there,
i am building the same plane, lil warp. you are absolutely right, i am missing some woods here and there. some how , i got whole bunch of mysterious piece which i don't need. anyway, i have just finishing building the wing, haven't joined them together, however, the 3degree looks ****s up. i guess i need to glue a trust across the halfs.
however i have a question for you, how did you insert your hinges? did you bury inside the wood? and how you actually modify the tabs part? write me back! i ll send you some of my plane 's pic
pete
ps how is it flying

Hi Pete,

Take a look at post 26 & 27. Instead of using the 4 -3/16x1/2x1"
I used 2 -1/16x1x2-3/4 Pisces of ply wood cut in the same way.And yes I cut the hinges into the wood. The plane's not done its ready for covering.

I just have to cover the control surfaces and it's all but done.I have a question, my hinges are plastic should I use epoxy or will med CA glue work????

Hi petechan00,

I haven't bin able to fly it yet. I live in the Pocono mountains of PA.
It's bin to cold and to much snow on the ground, I'm hoping that sunday I can brake in the engine. It's a Thunder-tiger 10 I hope its big enough for the wasp, it's weight is 2lbs. I think I might drill some holes in the landing gear to take off some weight. So until old man winter lets up I have to stick with the flight sim.I will post as soon as I get it in the air.

What is the span for this plane and finished weight.I have a new Os 10 FSR and was wondering if that would be enough engine. One more thing I am wondering is would standard size servos be to heavy? Thanks in advance.

36" and the weight is 2lbs. I do not recommend this plane. It was missing wood, instructions are pour at best. I have a Thunder tiger .10 in the plane it calls for a .10 to .20. I have not flown it yet having balance trouble with it. 2oz nose heavy. And I followed the recommended hardware. I'm not happy.

Heres a finished pic.

That sure is not a glowing reccomendation. It looks like such a nifty little plane. I inquired about the kit from the maker and they sure seem friendly and eager to respond to questions. In response to the member above all kits by this maker for .15 size engines and smaller require the smaller size servos.

I just e-mailed him and asked if he every built balanced one and flue one. Lets see what he has to say. If you like I could
email you the plans and instructions. They all came on printer paper full-size.

Bigbear, if you could email me the plans and instructions, I will build one. I'm brand new at this site and hate to come out asking for something, but I would like to build something small. I've got a few coals in the fire, but I could start pretty soon and would post pics.

Thanks,
Bill

One thing I would do is lose the built up canopy and stick something plastic on top. Looks like an Ag Cat or something on that order.

I e-mailed the maker of this kit, his plane had a OS.15 in it and he had to add weight to the tail. I'm just mad that he sells this kit knowing this. Now I need to figure out how to balance this thing and hide the weight.

Brian.
